Chapter 988: Calculating Scholar 43

Mother Ye nodded and said, “I understand. Go fetch some water and let your wife bathe.”

“Alright,” Ye Qingtong replied.

Soon after, he carried water back for Tang Wan. Because the two of them had been too intense the previous night, he didn’t dare do anything further after her bath. He only leaned against her, stealing a light kiss before wrapping an arm around her and gently fanning her with the other.

Tang Wan hadn’t rested well for the past two days, so under his embrace and the steady breeze, she quickly fell into a deep sleep. Seeing her asleep, Ye Qingtong gradually slowed the movement of the fan. Before long, he too drifted off beside her.

The next morning, Tang Wan woke up early, determined to show her diligence as a new wife by cooking breakfast.

Seeing her enthusiasm, Mother Ye immediately remembered what Ye Qingtong had said the previous night. She calmly said, “I’ve already washed the vegetables. You can just stir-fry them.”

She still didn’t quite believe it—how bad could it be? It was just a simple vegetable dish.

Tang Wan nodded immediately. “Alright, Mother. I’ll take care of it.”

She rolled up her sleeves confidently, looking completely at ease. Watching her, Mother Ye couldn’t help thinking that she didn’t seem like someone who couldn’t cook at all.

A few minutes later, Tang Wan finished a plate of stir-fried greens. The vegetables looked bright and glossy, extremely appetizing—just as Ye Qingtong had described.

Mother Ye nodded in satisfaction and then called Ye Qingtong and his father to eat.

The family gathered around the table. Smiling, Mother Ye said to Father Ye, “This dish was made personally by Wan Wan. We finally get to taste our daughter-in-law’s cooking.”

Father Ye laughed and picked up his chopsticks first, taking a bite.

“Looks even better than what you usually make,” he joked.

“That’s right!” Mother Ye agreed, also picking up her chopsticks.

But the moment the vegetables entered her mouth, her smile froze.

Her expression stiffened.

This… was the dish she had just watched Tang Wan cook—but why did it taste like this?

For a moment, she deeply regretted letting Tang Wan near the stove. The flavor was hard to describe—not outright bad, but completely off, in a way she couldn’t explain.

Father Ye was equally stunned.

At that moment, he caught Mother Ye’s meaningful glance.

Recovering instantly, he burst into laughter. “Not bad, not bad! Wan Wan’s cooking is quite good—very tasty!”

Mother Ye quickly followed, “Yes, yes! It’s just that you’re still young, and I can still handle the cooking. From now on, I’ll take care of the meals. You just focus on having a child with Qingtong—nothing would make me happier!”

If she had a baby to think about, she wouldn’t be worrying about cooking anymore.

Tang Wan blushed deeply at those words and nodded shyly. “Mother is right. My husband and I will work hard.”

Hearing this, Ye Qingtong finally relaxed and secretly gave his mother a thumbs-up.

This way, Tang Wan wouldn’t need to cook anymore—at least not until their new house was ready. After they moved out, he would figure something else out.

For now, he felt completely at ease.

The three of them then worked together to finish the entire plate of vegetables without complaint.

Watching them, Tang Wan showed a satisfied expression. In her heart, she thought proudly, It seems my cooking skills are getting better and better.

Little Cutie remained silent.

…As long as she was happy.
