Chapter 986: Calculating Scholar 41
After carrying in the water, Ye Qingtong said gently, “My lady, you wash first. I’ll bring you a bowl of chicken soup and let it cool. You can drink it afterward to replenish your body.”
Tang Wan: …
Do I really need nourishing?
Still, she nodded obediently. “Alright.”
Ye Qingtong thoughtfully closed the door and stepped out. Not long after, he returned with the chicken soup. Standing by the tub, he glanced at Tang Wan soaking in the water and said, “Mother has already washed the clothes you wore yesterday, but they’re not fully dry yet. They should be ready in about half an hour. In the afternoon, when it’s cooler, I’ll accompany you back to pack your things. Then, when the market opens the day after tomorrow, I’ll take you to buy new clothes. How does that sound?”
Tang Wan immediately nodded. “Alright! I’ll listen to you.”
The moment she said that, Ye Qingtong broke into a wide grin.
“Okay.”
Hearing her call him Xianggong in such a natural tone… it sounded far too pleasant.
After Tang Wan finished bathing, Ye Qingtong busied himself again, cleaning up the room and pouring out the bathwater. Watching him move about tirelessly, Tang Wan couldn’t help but curl her lips slightly.
She picked up the chicken soup and drank it slowly.
At that moment, Mother Ye came in holding a set of clothes. “Wan Wan, your clothes are dry now. Change into them quickly.”
“Thank you, Mother,” Tang Wan replied, wrapping herself in a sheet as she spoke.
Mother Ye’s face was full of smiles. “No need to be polite! I’ll head out first.”
Since yesterday, she had officially become a mother-in-law.
After Mother Ye left, Tang Wan quickly changed her clothes, then ate the food that had been prepared for her. By the time she finished, the sun had already begun to soften.
Ye Qingtong said, “My lady, I’ve borrowed an ox cart. Let’s go back and pack your belongings. Bring your clothes first—I’ll come back later to move the rest.”
“Alright,” Tang Wan agreed.
She then turned to Ah Huang, who had been following her closely. “A Huang, stay here.”
“Woof!” The dog seemed to understand. This time, it obediently remained in the shade of the Ye family courtyard instead of following her.
Tang Wan sat on the ox cart. Afraid she might be uncomfortable, Ye Qingtong had specially placed a soft cushion beneath her, and even added a cooling mat made by Father Ye to keep her from feeling the heat.
Such careful thoughtfulness made Tang Wan smile to herself the entire way.
It really didn’t matter whether a man was rich or not. As long as he truly cared and wanted to treat you well, he would always find ways to do so.
When they arrived at Tangjia Village, the villagers were surprised to see the two of them returning together.
Ye Qingtong, however, looked completely composed. With a smile, he handed out wedding candies to everyone they met.
“Yes, Wan Wan and I got married yesterday,” he explained. “It was all very sudden, so we didn’t have time to invite everyone for a wedding feast. Please don’t take offense. These sweets are a small token—please accept them.”
By doing this, he was making things clear in advance. If anything happened later, Li Fuze wouldn’t be able to twist the situation or slander Wan Wan.
The villagers happily accepted the sweets.
“Congratulations!”
“Congratulations! May you have a son soon!”
Though smiling outwardly, many couldn’t help feeling a bit envious. Tang Wan was known as the beauty of their village—who would have thought she’d be quietly married off to Ye Qingtong?
But hadn’t the Li family always implied that Tang Wan was meant to be Li Fuze’s wife?
