Chapter 985: Calculating Scholar 40

Early the next morning, when Tang Wan woke up, she only felt soreness all over her body. Her waist ached especially badly. At the same time, she realized that Ye Qingtong was still holding her tightly in his arms.

The moment he noticed her waking, he spoke in a hoarse voice, “Wan Wan, you’re awake?”

“T-Tong Tong…” Tang Wan replied softly, but as soon as she spoke, she felt her throat was dry and uncomfortable.

Seeing this, Ye Qingtong immediately reached over and brought a cup of tea to her lips. “Drink some water first.”

Tang Wan nodded and took a few sips, then another, until after several cups her throat finally felt better. Only then did she lift her gaze to him and ask, “Tong Tong… what are we now?”

Ye Qingtong’s expression softened immediately. Afraid she might not remember what happened the night before, he quickly explained, “Wan Wan, we’re already married.”

Hearing this, Tang Wan widened her eyes slightly, then murmured, “Really? I thought it was just a dream…”

“It’s not a dream. It’s real,” Ye Qingtong said, tightening his hold on her as if afraid she might disappear. Then his expression turned apologetic. “I’m sorry… everything happened so suddenly. I didn’t have time to prepare anything properly.”

Tang Wan shook her head gently. “What does that matter? As long as we live well together in the future, it doesn’t matter whether the wedding is grand or not. What matters most is who we’re with.”

Hearing this, Ye Qingtong couldn’t help but grin.

“You’re right,” he said seriously. “Don’t worry. From now on, I’ll do my best to give you everything I can.”

“I believe you,” Tang Wan replied, her eyes full of trust.

Unable to hold back, Ye Qingtong leaned down and kissed her softly before saying in a low voice, “Meeting you is my greatest blessing.”

Tang Wan smiled faintly. “I should be the one saying that.”

But in her heart, she thought calmly—what blessing? This was something I planned long ago.

Because the two of them had been exhausted the previous night, Ye Qingtong hadn’t even had the strength to properly clean her afterward. Now, in the summer heat, both of them felt sticky and uncomfortable.

He gently released her and got out of bed. “Rest for a bit, my lady. I’ll bring water for you to bathe.”

“Mm,” Tang Wan nodded.

After putting on a thin shirt, Ye Qingtong went out. Since Father Ye was a carpenter, he had already prepared furniture for Ye Qingtong’s future marriage, including an unused bathtub.

He carried the tub into the room, then went to the kitchen to fetch water. Mother Ye had already prepared hot water. When she saw him come out, she stepped forward immediately.

“Qingtong, is Wan Wan alright?” she asked with concern.

Ye Qingtong nodded with a smile. “She’s fine, Mother. Don’t worry.”

“That’s good,” Mother Ye said with relief. “I’ve already made some chicken soup for her. After she bathes, give her a bowl.”

“I know, Mother. You’ve worked hard,” Ye Qingtong replied.

Mother Ye snorted lightly. “Worked hard? Now that you’re married, you’re getting polite with your own mother?”

Ye Qingtong quickly shook his head with a grin. “How could that be? You and Father have taken care of me all these years—it’s only right that I appreciate it.”

“Enough, go fetch water for your wife,” Mother Ye urged. “It’s so hot in summer—she’ll feel miserable if she doesn’t bathe.”

“Alright, I’m going now!” Ye Qingtong said, immediately lifting two buckets of water and heading back to the room.
