Chapter 983: Calculating Scholar 38

Seeing Mother Li raise her hand, Ye Qingtong caught her wrist mid-air, his grip firm and unyielding. A cold sneer spread across his face as he said, “Hit me? Li Fuze drugged my fiancรฉe and tried to violate her. I saw everything with my own eyes. If I hadn’t happened to stay for dinner tonight, he would’ve succeeded, that shameless beast. The evidence is still on the table. Tell me—what right do you have to lay a hand on me?”

His words struck like thunder.

Father Li and Mother Li froze, their expressions turning blank before shifting to disbelief. They both turned to Li Fuze. “Afu… is what he said true?”

Li Fuze’s face tightened for a moment, but he quickly recovered. “Nonsense!” he snapped. “What evidence do you have that I drugged the roast duck?”

Ye Qingtong let out a harsh laugh. “Want to deny it? Then let’s report it to the authorities right now.”

The moment those words came out, Father Li and Mother Li panicked.

Li Fuze, however, remained composed. He looked at Tang Wan and said coldly, “Go ahead and report it. Once this gets out, Tang Wan’s reputation will be completely ruined. I’d like to see how she’ll continue living after that.”

In this era, a woman’s reputation was more important than her life. Once such a matter reached the authorities, even if she were the victim, the gossip and judgment would destroy her.

And not just her—Ye Qingtong would also be dragged into it, pointed at and mocked. No matter how one looked at it, reporting this matter would hurt them both.

But Tang Wan suddenly let out a cold laugh. “So what if my reputation is ruined? Even then, Tong Tong will still marry me.” Her gaze turned sharp as she looked at Li Fuze. “And you… once this is exposed, let’s see what happens to your reputation. Do you think any decent girl will still be willing to marry you?”

If the matter were reported, his future would be just as destroyed.

Did he really think he could threaten her with reputation?

Li Fuze’s expression darkened. He stared at her intently. “Tang Wan, are you sure you want to report this?”

“Yes,” Tang Wan replied without hesitation.

Mother Li immediately panicked. “No! You can’t report it!”

Father Li also hurriedly added, “That’s right, we can’t report it!”

If this got out, how could their son ever hold his head up in the village again?

Mother Li quickly changed her tone, playing the sympathy card. “Wan Wan, Afu just made a mistake in a moment of confusion. For the sake of all the years our family has taken care of you, can you forgive him this once? We promise—this will never happen again!”

Tang Wan took a deep breath, her expression turning cold.

“Fine,” she said. “For the sake of the kindness your family once showed me, I won’t pursue this matter any further. But listen carefully—if even a word of what happened tonight leaks out…” Her gaze sharpened. “Then the entire city will know exactly what kind of disgusting things Li Fuze has done. At that point, don’t blame me if we all go down together.”

At those words, Ye Qingtong frowned, clearly dissatisfied. “Wan Wan, this is letting them off too easily.”

Tang Wan leaned weakly into his arms and said softly, “Tong Tong… let them go.”

Only then did Ye Qingtong realize—she had been drugged. Her condition right now was unstable. If this dragged on, who knew what might happen in front of the Li family?

Suppressing his anger, he tightened his hold on her, his expression still cold as he stared at the Li family.
