Chapter 979: Calculating Scholar 34
As Ye Qingtong ate, he was silently giving himself a pep talk.
This is a meal Wan Wan personally made. You absolutely cannot dislike it. You have to give her face and eat more.
With that in mind, he gradually forced himself to get used to the taste, eating as though it were some kind of delicacy.
After lunch, he took the initiative to clean up the dishes. Tang Wan didn’t stop him.
Once he finished washing the bowls, Tang Wan asked, “Tong Tong, what time do you go back to work this afternoon? Do you want to rest here for a while?”
Hearing this, Ye Qingtong’s heart stirred. “Alright.”
He had originally planned to find a tree outside and take a short nap. But since Wan Wan had personally invited him to stay, how could he refuse?
Tang Wan brought out a mat from her room and spread it in the hall. After laying it down, she hesitated slightly before saying, “Actually… the floor might be too cold. It’s not good for your health. Why don’t you rest in my room instead? My parents’ room hasn’t been cleaned—it’s not comfortable.”
The moment she said this, Ye Qingtong’s breathing hitched.
He looked at her with burning eyes. “What about you? Aren’t you going to rest?”
Tang Wan smiled faintly. “It’s fine. I don’t have much to do this afternoon. I’ll just shell some beans.”
Hearing that, Ye Qingtong felt a trace of regret.
If only I could hold her and nap together…
Still, he nodded. “Alright.”
Tang Wan pushed open her room door. “It’s cooler inside. Go rest—you still have work later.”
“Mm,” Ye Qingtong replied, looking at her before stepping inside.
After she closed the door and left, he couldn’t help glancing around the room, taking in everything that belonged to her. Then he lay down on her bed.
The faint scent on the pillow made him pause.
He took a slow breath, then forced himself to calm down.
There’s still work this afternoon… I need to rest properly.
But just as he began to feel drowsy, a sharp pain suddenly twisted in his stomach.
Oh no…
His expression changed.
He quickly got up, threw on his shoes, and hurried out.
When Tang Wan saw him come out in less than half an hour, she looked at him in surprise. “Tong Tong? You’re done resting already?”
Ye Qingtong didn’t dare admit that his stomach was upset—if he did, she might think it was because of her cooking.
Suppressing the discomfort, he forced a normal expression. “Mm. There’s a lot of work this afternoon—I shouldn’t go too late. I’ll head off now.”
“Alright. Go safely,” Tang Wan nodded.
As soon as he left her house, Ye Qingtong hurried toward his workplace. The moment he found the latrine, he finally let out a long breath of relief.
Inwardly, he couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
So this is what they call… suffering and happiness at the same time.
From now on, he absolutely couldn’t let her cook again.
Back at Tang Wan’s house, after he left, she set aside the beans she had been shelling, washed her hands, and went back to rest.
That evening, after finishing work, Ye Qingtong came by again—just to see her, exchange a few words, and steal a reluctant kiss before finally leaving.
