Chapter 974: Calculating Scholar 29

When Tang Wan’s gaze fell on a small ornament he had made by hand, Ye Qingtong leaned slightly closer and asked in a low voice, “Wan Wan… if you marry me, will you regret it?”

After all, Li Fuze was still a scholar, young and promising, with a strong chance of achieving success in the imperial examinations. Compared to him, Ye Qingtong was nothing more than a rough hunter.

Would she regret choosing him?

Tang Wan looked up at him, a hint of surprise in her eyes. “Why would you ask that? Of course I won’t regret it. Tong Tong, you’re so good—how could I regret marrying you?”

“Really? You mean that?” Ye Qingtong’s eyes lit up, his expression full of disbelief and joy.

“Of course,” Tang Wan said softly. “If I didn’t mean it, how could I entrust my life to you after only meeting you a few times?”

As she finished speaking, she lowered her head shyly.

Seeing her like this, something surged in Ye Qingtong’s chest. Unable to hold back any longer, he leaned forward, finally revealing the true purpose of bringing her into the room.

When he finally tasted the sweetness he had longed for, Ye Qingtong felt as if his entire body was floating. His arms tightened around her instinctively, unwilling to let go.

Only after a long while did he release her, both of them flushed and slightly breathless. He looked down at her with deep satisfaction.

Tang Wan’s face was already red like a ripe apple.

Seeing this, Ye Qingtong said in a low, solemn voice, “I will definitely take responsibility for you.”

“Mm,” Tang Wan nodded softly.

At her response, he pulled her into his arms again, unable to resist. He had half expected her to push him away, but instead she was soft and yielding, allowing him to hold her as he pleased.

The two of them spent the entire afternoon wrapped up in each other in Ye Qingtong’s room. It wasn’t until he heard his parents returning that he reluctantly let her go.

“I’ll take you back after dinner, alright?” he asked.

“Alright,” Tang Wan agreed without objection.

After dinner, the heat of the day had faded. A cool evening breeze swept through, bringing a refreshing calm. Hand in hand, the two walked slowly back toward Tangjia Village. By the time they arrived, dusk had already settled.

Looking up at the dimming sky, Tang Wan said, “It’s getting late, Tong Tong. Are you heading back now?”

Ye Qingtong looked at her intently, the meaning in his eyes unmistakable.

Tang Wan’s lips twitched slightly. “Then… why don’t you come in and sit for a while?”

“Alright!” Ye Qingtong agreed instantly.

Tang Wan: …

After entering the courtyard, Ye Qingtong couldn’t hold back any longer. He pressed her gently against the wall.

Why did he like her so much?

Why did he feel so unwilling to part with her, even for a moment?

But just as he leaned in again, he was suddenly interrupted.

“Woof!”

Ahuang, the big yellow dog, rushed out and barked fiercely at Ye Qingtong, seeing Tang Wan pinned against the wall.

Startled, Tang Wan quickly pushed Ye Qingtong away and reached out to the dog. “Ahuang, don’t bite! He’s not a bad person.”

Seeing that Tang Wan was unharmed, Ahuang eyed Ye Qingtong suspiciously before rubbing its head against her hand.

Ye Qingtong, however, stared at the dog with clenched teeth.

There was no one else in Tang Wan’s home—he had thought it was the perfect place, with no risk of interruption.

Who would have thought…

No people would disturb them—but the dog would.
