Chapter 960: Calculating Scholar 15
Seeing Ye Qingtong’s confident expression, Mother Ye nodded. “Alright then. As long as you know what you’re doing.”
“Don’t worry, Mother. I’ll definitely bring you the most beautiful daughter-in-law,” Ye Qingtong said. Then he added in a lower voice, “But for now, don’t tell anyone about this.”
Mother Ye laughed and scolded lightly, “Do I need you to remind me of that?” Though inwardly, she was amused—who would have thought her son cared so much about looks?
After coaxing his mother, Ye Qingtong returned to his room. He took out the embroidered shoe he had tucked into his clothes, stared at it for a long time with a foolish grin, then carefully hid it under his bed.
Early the next morning, he went out to inquire about work in Tangjia Village. When he learned that a family there was hiring laborers to build a house, he immediately took the job. That very afternoon, he headed to the village.
When the day’s work ended, he politely declined the host family’s offer to stay for a meal and instead made his way toward Tang Wan’s house. Seeing the courtyard gate tightly shut, he couldn’t help but frown.
It wasn’t even dark yet—why had she closed the door so early?
After a brief pause, he stepped forward and knocked.
Tang Wan already knew that Ye Qingtong had come to work in Tangjia Village. Originally, she had planned to “accidentally” run into him, but considering her feet had only just been injured, it would seem suspicious if she recovered too quickly. So she held herself back.
She hadn’t expected, however, that he would take the initiative and come knocking himself.
Tang Wan quickly walked over to the door. Before opening it, she deliberately asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s me, Ye Qingtong,” he replied softly.
Hearing his voice, Tang Wan opened the door and looked at him in surprise. “Big Brother Ye? What brings you here? Come in.”
Ye Qingtong did want to step inside. But thinking that she lived alone, and that if others saw an unrelated man entering her home, it might damage her reputation, he held himself back.
“No need. I just happened to be working in Tangjia Village today. I came by after work to see if your feet are better,” he said.
Tang Wan nodded. “I’m much better now, thanks to you.”
“That’s good…” Ye Qingtong hesitated, then added, “Then… I’ll be going?”
Though he said he was leaving, his feet seemed rooted in place. His dark eyes remained fixed on Tang Wan’s delicate, captivating face.
Seeing this, Tang Wan immediately lowered her gaze shyly, her expression soft and full of tenderness as she nodded lightly. “Mm… then go safely…”
“Alright,” Ye Qingtong replied, though he clearly found it hard to turn away.
Tang Wan didn’t close the door right away. Instead, she stood there watching him leave.
At that moment, Ye Qingtong suddenly turned back, sneaking a glance toward her.
When he saw her still standing at the doorway, looking at him with gentle, affectionate eyes—only to hurriedly lower her gaze in fluster when he caught her—his heart skipped a beat.
Could it be… that Tang Wan also liked him?
The thought made his heart surge. Without thinking, he stepped back toward her and said with sudden resolve, “Tang Wan, I have something to tell you.”
Tang Wan’s heart stirred.
Was he about to propose?
It seemed that in this world, Tong Tong was quite the man of action.
She quickly nodded. “What is it? Go ahead.”
