Chapter 1798: Unlucky Heiress (66)
"One of the beads on the bracelet Guoguo gave us cracked," Tang Yongbo said as he stretched out his wrist. Lin Yinghui did the same. The two held their wrists out in front of Tang Guo and Tang Kui for them to see.
The Buddhist bead bracelets were made of sandalwood. Even if it was sandalwood from the Immortal Realm, it was still wood.
Each bead had originally been polished smooth and round. Yet on both bracelets, one bead stood out from the others. It had almost completely lost its luster, and faint spiderweb-like cracks covered its surface. Though each crack was tiny, there were simply too many of them.
At first glance, it looked as though someone had used rotten wood that could crumble apart at any moment.
As for the jade plaque Tang Kui had given Tang Yongbo and the pendant he had given Lin Yinghui, each had also developed a crack.
The cracks were very small and could easily be overlooked, but the couple treasured those items. After noticing the problem with the bracelets, they had instinctively checked the jade plaque and pendant hanging around their necks.
To their surprise, both pieces bore fresh cracks.
Tang Kui wasn't surprised at all when he saw that only one bead on each bracelet had been damaged.
111 had previously examined the bracelets and found that the power contained within them was tremendous. It wasn't strange that only one bead had been ruined after such a terrible accident.
Although the jade plaque and pendant he had gifted were incredibly valuable by earthly standards—the plaque alone would fetch around three million yuan on the current market, and Lin Yinghui's pendant was worth roughly the same—they were no match for the bracelets Tang Guo had given them.
According to his calculations, without Tang Guo's bracelets, his own jade plaque and pendant would have had to bear the entire burden of protecting the couple's lives. By now, they would probably be covered in cracks and have completely lost their luster. Even if they hadn't shattered, they would have become utterly worthless.
Not even children would have wanted them.
"Although my mind went blank at the time, I clearly remember feeling a very special force protecting my body. Even though I was being shielded, I could still feel the tremendous pressure crashing toward me from all directions. If a normal human body had taken that force head-on, death would have come instantly."
Tang Yongbo still shuddered at the memory.
Even though he had escaped death, he would never forget that sensation—the overwhelming certainty of death filling his mind in an instant.
He and Lin Yinghui had already silently agreed that they would never tell anyone about those strange sensations.
When people questioned them about the accident, they concealed only this part. Everything else they described honestly.
Later, after discovering that one bead had become covered with tiny cracks and looked like it had been carved from decayed wood, they recalled the scene of the car tumbling down the slope and concluded that it had most likely been the Buddhist beads bestowed by the eminent monk that had saved their lives.
Such things naturally couldn't be publicized.
"Your father and I believe that our miraculous survival this time must have been because of the Buddhist beads Guoguo gave us, along with the jade plaque and jade pendant A'Kui gifted us," Lin Yinghui said.
Otherwise, why would only one bead have developed problems?
And why had fragile objects like the pendant and plaque survived such a devastating crash, suffering nothing more than a tiny crack hidden deep within?
It was too unbelievable.
So unbelievable that they couldn't help believing that the blessed objects had protected them.
