Chapter 1788: Unlucky Heiress (56)
As for Tang Yi, all she had to do was remain the Tang family's eldest young lady and enjoy a life free of worry. They could arrange an easy position for her in one of the other departments. If she didn't want to work, opening a shop would be fine too.
"Mom, Dad, you're worrying too much." Tang Kui felt that it was time to teach his overly kind-hearted parents a lesson. They probably had no idea that Tang Yi might already be contemplating trading their lives for her love.
"Guoguo was lost when she was little, and you accidentally brought Xiaoyi home. You gave her parental love and the privileged life of a little princess, allowing her to escape the fate of growing up in an orphanage." Tang Kui paused briefly before continuing, "And what about Guoguo? She got lost as a child. If she hadn't met kind people like Uncle Chen and Aunt Zhao, who knows what she might have suffered."
"Even so, Guoguo still lost many things. The fear of being separated from her family at such a young age, the pain of growing up without her biological parents. Yet after finally returning home, her own parents still had to consider the feelings of the adopted daughter and insist on treating both sides equally. Mom, Dad, I think that's unfair to Guoguo."
Tang Guo herself hadn't expected Tang Kui to say these things so directly.
The Tang couple didn't really have any major flaws. They genuinely loved the original owner. They were simply a little too soft-hearted toward those close to them.
Standing in her position, she really couldn't say these things herself. In her eyes, however much kindness they showed Tang Yi now, that would become the same amount of disappointment in the future. It could be considered the price of their good intentions, so she had never interfered.
She remembered those who treated her well, and she remembered those who treated her badly as well. Whether it was much or little didn't matter.
"Mom, Dad, think about it carefully. Where does that leave Guoguo? Guoguo doesn't mind, but I do. How you treat Xiaoyi is your choice—I have no say in that. Likewise, you have no right to interfere in how I treat Guoguo. She's my sister. I'll spoil her however I want, whenever I want, and wherever I want. That's my business."
As he spoke, Tang Kui glanced at Tang Guo, as though saying, See? In this world, your brother is still the one who spoils you the most.
And that fellow Tao Yu—could he possibly compare to your real brother?
Hearing all this, Lin Yinghui and Tang Yongbo fell silent. About five minutes later, they looked at Tang Guo with guilty expressions.
They had been mistaken.
The person they should have been compensating the most was Guoguo.
"Mom, Dad, you understand now, don't you? You don't owe Xiaoyi anything. If we're being serious, shouldn't she be grateful instead? If she's sensible, then no matter how much you spoil Guoguo, she'll understand. Rather than making you carefully maintain superficial harmony and constantly try to keep everything balanced."
"If she really becomes unhappy and throws a tantrum because you're doting on Guoguo, then you've probably raised an ungrateful white-eyed wolf."
By this point, the couple had already come to their senses and apologized to Tang Guo.
Naturally, Tang Guo didn't care much about such things. Seeing the clarity in their eyes, she could tell they had made some sort of decision.
Her brows lifted slightly.
Could Tang Yi handle what was coming?
Tang Kui wasn't wrong. There was nothing wrong with the couple favoring their long-lost biological daughter. As long as they didn't mistreat Tang Yi, she had no right to question it.
The couple continued serving food to Tang Guo and Tang Kui, chatting all the while about buying Tang Guo a car as well.
Tang Guo and Tang Kui exchanged a glance before both quietly cast their eyes toward the staircase.
