Chapter 1751: Unlucky Heiress (18)
As an adopted daughter, competing with her adoptive parents' biological child was neither wise nor beneficial. It would only provoke Tang Kui's dislike, and Tang Yi wasn't foolish enough to do that.
The gifts had been arranged neatly, each one labeled with the year and the occasion for which it had been prepared.
"Let's start with the oldest ones," Tang Yi suggested with a smile.
Tang Guo didn't object.
At present, Tang Yi seemed to have figured something out. Tang Guo could sense that she genuinely intended to get along with her.
Since Tang Yi wasn't presenting her face to be slapped, and one shouldn't strike someone who greeted them with a smile, Tang Guo had no intention of making things difficult for her.
She wasn't in a hurry.
Human nature itself was complicated.
Bad people weren't evil in every way, and good people weren't good in every aspect.
Bad people could change for the better, and good people could become bad.
Sometimes people alternated between good and evil, behaving well one day and poorly the next.
If Tang Yi could maintain this peaceful attitude until the end of the world, Tang Guo would genuinely admire her.
But humans were also the least capable of resisting temptation.
Had Tang Yi never obtained that so-called Lucky Charm, perhaps she would never have harbored excessive desires or done anything unreasonable.
Yet the Lucky Charm was still in her possession.
What if one day she remembered it and made another wish?
Once someone had tasted the benefits, how could they willingly give them up?
What was a wish, after all?
A wish was something one couldn't obtain. That was why people wished.
Tang Guo slowly opened all the gifts from the year she had gone missing.
There were little dresses, necklaces, and various things girls her age would have liked.
Looking at them now, they seemed outdated.
But considering the era they had come from, one could tell how much care the Tang couple had put into choosing them.
Inside each gift box were handwritten wishes from all three family members.
Every wish said the same thing:
They hoped Tang Guo would come home.
One by one, she opened all the remaining presents.
From childhood to adulthood, almost every box contained wishes written by the three of them.
And every single wish was identical—
May Tang Guo return to this family.
Watching from the side, Tang Yi couldn't help feeling envious.
Still, she knew she should be content.
Ever since arriving at the Tang family, the couple had treated her exceptionally well.
Her treatment had never differed from that of the true Tang family's daughter.
Fortunately, she had grown up under the influence of these two kind people.
Everything the couple had said today was meant to reassure her that she would never be neglected in this family.
Even when Tang Kui instinctively overlooked her, they would always step in to smooth things over.
With such adoptive parents, she truly had no complaints.
If one day she could obtain Tang Kui's sincere love, she would ask for nothing else in this life.
Even if the Tang family left her with nothing, she would be satisfied.
"Big Brother, you probably haven't prepared any dresses for Guoguo to attend banquets and gatherings yet, right?" Tang Yi suddenly said.
"Even though she doesn't need them right away, it's best to prepare some in advance. Otherwise, things might become rushed."
"And such a spacious walk-in closet should be filled to the brim."
Tang Kui paused and glanced at Tang Yi before smiling.
"You're right. Everything happened so quickly that we haven't had time to prepare."
"Big Brother, why don't we settle everything at once and take Guoguo shopping today?" Tang Yi suggested eagerly.
Truthfully, she had never gone shopping with Tang Kui before.
Tang Kui turned to Tang Guo.
"Guoguo, do you want to go today? Are you tired? If you're tired, you can rest. Tomorrow's Sunday, so we could go then."
"I'll listen to Xiaoyi. Let's get everything done in one trip," Tang Guo replied.
Tang Kui affectionately rubbed her head, his eyes filled with warmth.
"Alright then. Your brother will make the arrangements right away. You two wait here for a while."
