Chapter 1716: Miss Nice Girl (79)

Now, it seemed that everything had finally turned around. The road ahead for that pitiful little girl would surely be bright.

"Granduncle, you're a respected elder. You can't go back on your word, can you?"

In the end, the old man agreed.

At that moment, he suddenly felt as though he truly regarded Tang Guo as one of his own descendants. Having lived his entire life, he also wanted to see the big city. Though the girl expected nothing from him, he had already decided that when his life finally came to an end, he would leave everything he had to her.

After looking at all the younger generation, she was the most pleasing to his eyes.

On the day of Tang Guo's wedding, everyone she invited was from her new circle of friends.

She didn't notify Li Meixue and Tang Chenghai's family, nor did she invite any of her relatives.

Granduncle attended as her elder.

On Baili Sheng's side, however, there were far more people.

No matter whom he married, everyone applauded in support. Their greatest fear had always been that he would keep his old promise and never marry for the rest of his life.

Now, not only had he gotten married, he'd married such a beautiful girl.

Especially the women in the family. When they learned that the famous nail master was Tang Guo, they practically stared at the couple with glowing eyes.

Baili Sheng's mother had once been one of Tang Guo's customers and was completely satisfied with this daughter-in-law.

"Xiaoguo, we're family now. If Xiao Sheng ever dares to bully you, just tell Mom."

"Mom, Brother Sheng is very good. How could he ever bully me?"

Mother Baili beamed. "You're always taking his side."

"I'm just telling the truth."

Holding Tang Guo's hand, Mother Baili glanced around before lowering her voice. "Xiaoguo, now that we're family, isn't it unnecessary to compete for appointment slots online anymore?"

They were family, after all.

Why make things so troublesome, right?

Tang Guo glanced at the beautiful nails on Mother Baili's fingers and said, "Mom, the appointments still have to be booked. It's a matter of principle." Seeing the disappointment on her face, she continued, "But if you want your nails done, why place an order? Just come to the house and find me."

The moment she finished speaking, Mother Baili burst into laughter.

"Good, good. Then let's keep this between ourselves. If everyone starts taking shortcuts, how are you supposed to do business? I'll make sure to tell them all. If they want their nails done, they have to queue up and compete for appointments. No special treatment."

System: Doesn't this count as tearing down the bridge after crossing the river?

Granduncle moved into the apartment Tang Guo had bought for him. Worried that he would feel lonely by himself, Tang Guo bought him a cat and a dog. The old man was still in excellent health. Every morning and evening, he would take the dog for a walk and gradually became acquainted with the elderly people in the neighborhood. He even gained several chess-playing friends.

His life was far more comfortable than before.

Granduncle himself had never expected that after living a lonely life, he would finally enjoy such blessings in old age.

Tang Xiaokun, however, wasn't doing nearly as well.

Contrary to Li Meixue and Tang Chenghai's expectations, he failed to get into a prestigious university in the provincial capital.

With his grades, he barely managed to squeeze into one of the worst undergraduate colleges.

Neither of them blamed Tang Xiaokun. Instead, they asked whether he'd been under too much pressure and assumed he must have simply performed poorly on the exam.

Tang Xiaokun also insisted that he had just failed to perform normally because he had been too nervous. After all, his usual grades were much better.

What the couple didn't know was that many of his ordinary grades had been copied from others.

Tang Xiaokun had no intention of repeating the year. In truth, he was afraid that in the next entrance examination, he might not even make it into an undergraduate college. He had cheated during this exam too, but the supervision had been strict, so he hadn't dared copy much.

Eventually, he enrolled in a poor university located in the provincial capital.

The couple scrimped and saved to finish renovating the apartment there. Since their jobs were still in the county, they couldn't live there often.

They didn't believe grades represented everything. They repeatedly told Tang Xiaokun to study hard and assured him that even graduates from the worst schools could achieve success.

Tang Xiaokun readily agreed.

But once he entered university, he became like an untamed horse released from its reins. He did nothing but play around and treated his parents' advice like the wind.

Whenever he called them, it was always to ask for money.

If Li Meixue talked too much, he would use being busy with his studies as an excuse and tell her not to disturb him.

During weekends and holidays, he invited friends and girls from school to party in the apartment.

Meanwhile, the couple continued living frugally, paying off the mortgage and providing him with living expenses, completely unaware that his future was heading in a direction entirely different from what they had imagined.

Every day, the System updated Tang Guo about Tang Xiaokun's current life and how the couple continued to tighten their belts to pay the mortgage and support him.

"This is only the beginning," Tang Guo said with a smile. "Their truly difficult days are still ahead. There are millions in mortgage payments, and later there will be Xiaokun's marriage and children. All the pressure will fall on them."

"Since they can't rely on their son, perhaps they'll think their grandson will have even greater prospects in the future."

System: Host, you're really wicked.
