Chapter 1602: Rubik's Cube Beauty (64)
“Isn't there a saying among them—prepare for danger in times of peace?” Xie Yun said with a grin. “Even ordinary, insignificant humans can use their wisdom to reach the heavens. That just proves how clever they are. Who knows, maybe one day they'll really fire cannons and blow up our Rubik's Cube World. Of course we have to be wary of those little clever fellows.”
System thought to itself: Aren't you one of those little clever fellows too?
“Speaking of that, could the problem really be among us?” Zhang Le frowned, no longer shaking his leg.
Tang Guo swept her gaze lightly across the three of them. “There are four of us here right now. I can be certain that none of us has a problem.”
“How could I possibly have one?” Xie Yun quickly said.
Zhang Le also hurried to add, “I'm not stupid. Destroying the Rubik's Cube World wouldn't bring me a damn bit of benefit.”
“So that leaves two people,” Gong Wei said. “But we can't conclude that they're the problem either. The issue could have originated somewhere else.”
“We'll have to meet them to know for sure.” Xie Yun's eyes fell on the Rubik's Cube in Tang Guo's hand. “Why did you take that thing out? Are you trying to explain something?”
Tang Guo held up the cube. At the moment, the colors were still perfectly arranged. Pointing at it, she said, “This Rubik's Cube has six faces, each with a different color. The order is white on top, yellow on the bottom, green on the left, blue on the right, red in front, and orange in the back. Why is it that each city is only truly safe within its walls, while everywhere else is full of dangers and monsters?”
Without waiting for anyone to speak, she continued, “Actually, I don't know either. But let me make an analogy. According to the way our world currently rotates, the safe zone corresponds to the center square of each face, and those six center squares represent our six cities.”
“And?” Xie Yun asked, looking confused. “What does that mean?”
“It means the traitor is among the six of us.”
“What if it isn't the center square?” Zhang Le pressed.
Tang Guo shook her head. “No. According to the laws governing the Rubik's Cube World, that is the only possibility.”
“Why?”
“I believe the outsider himself never moved. What moved were the cities of the Rubik's Cube. Think about it—only the center is safe. The six cities are constantly rotating into the central position. The Rubik's Cube World is still different from an ordinary toy Rubik's Cube.”
“Then why can only the center square sustain life while outside the cities are vicious monsters? What relationship do those monsters have with the Rubik's Cube World?”
Both Xie Yun and Zhang Le looked bewildered. They had never considered such a question before.
“I once read an ancient record in Sin City,” Gong Wei suddenly said. “There was an account of a powerful person who subdued a formidable monster outside the city. That person later obtained a key from Trading City and left the world with the monster.”
City Lords of the Rubik's Cube World would eventually step down after enough time had passed, but certain cases were recorded. For example, everyone who managed to leave the world was documented clearly.
Tang Guo nodded. “Exactly. That's what I wanted to mention. It proves one thing.”
Seeing the curiosity in all three of them, she continued, “Those monsters were not born from the Rubik's Cube World. Once this world is destroyed, they, just like the outsiders, will regain their freedom and happily leave this place, traveling everywhere to cause trouble and devour people.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Zhang Le and Xie Yun shuddered violently. If that was true, then anyone seeking to destroy the Rubik's Cube World wanted to release those monsters into the outside world.
“We can't detect that mysterious soul,” Tang Guo continued. “Do you think the place he's truly hiding could be where those monsters are? After all, we can only control the cities under our own jurisdiction.”
“What is he trying to do?” Zhang Le nearly cried out.
The monsters outside the city gates were not terrifying only because they were suppressed by the power of the Rubik's Cube World. Without that suppression, those monsters could effortlessly swallow an entire city's population.
