Chapter 1552: Rubik’s Cube Beauty (14)

“But…” Yin Xiaofei hesitated.

“But they don't want that, right? Happiness City isn't trying to exterminate them. It's simply that they themselves are unwilling. Isn't this outcome their own choice? Does Happiness City owe them anything?”

Yin Xiaofei couldn't find the words to refute her. Naturally, the city owed these people nothing. She merely felt that the whole thing lacked humanity.

“Most people who come here do so voluntarily. You all came willingly too, didn't you?” Tang Guo asked.

Yi Yingxue nodded. “Yes, we came here of our own accord. You're right. Since we've entered someone else's territory, we should follow their rules. Besides, they have given us opportunities to earn Rubik's Cube Coins. Even if we have no coins, we won't necessarily die—we'll just lose our freedom. It all depends on the choice one makes.”

“Exactly. There is no such thing as always taking advantage without paying a price.” Tang Guo looked at Yi Yingxue. “Why did you come here?”

“I have a terminal illness. Ah Ming found information about the Rubik's Cube World in an ancient book. It said there might be ways to cure incurable diseases and prolong one's lifespan here.”

“I never expected the Rubik's Cube World to be so complicated,” Zhai Chenming added. “And we still don't know where we'll be sent next month, so I've decided to earn as many Rubik's Cube Coins as possible in preparation.”

“What about you, Tang Guo? Why did you come here?” Yin Xiaofei asked.

“Curiosity.”

Wasn't that the truth?

The original owner had died because of curiosity, bringing about the destruction of the entire Rubik's Cube World.

Once the Rubik's Cube World was destroyed, those who had signed contracts and chosen to remain forever in each city would perish alongside it.

Now that she was here, the Rubik's Cube World could only continue to exist. It could not be destroyed.

No one said anything more, and they each returned to their rooms to rest.

Just before dawn, they all headed downstairs almost instinctively and went to the city gate.

When the gate opened, Tang Guo saw many ragged figures stumbling inside, their bodies covered in wounds of varying severity.

Some shouted, “I choose to stay! I want to stay and become one of Happiness City's people!”

Others had no intention of remaining and rushed into the city to find ways to earn Rubik's Cube Coins.

Roughly a thousand people had been driven out the previous night.

Tang Guo counted carefully.

Only around eight hundred had returned.

That meant two hundred people had died overnight.

Those who chose to stay in Happiness City were questioned repeatedly. When they still refused to change their minds, it seemed as though some sort of spell descended upon them.

Their injuries healed instantly, and their ragged clothes transformed into clean garments.

At the same time, the pain and terror on their faces disappeared. Their expressions became identical to those of the native residents of Happiness City.

Nothing remained except those ever-present smiles.

Clearly, they had preserved their lives. They no longer needed to fear death and had even gained immortality.

Yet the spectators watching this scene felt only chills creeping down their spines.

Yin Xiaofei shuddered.

Thank goodness she had never intended to stay.

If she had to wear that permanent smile every day, it would be terrifying.

Soon it was time for another meal.

Under the jealous gazes of Yin Xiaofei and the others, Tang Guo answered that she was happy, and the waiter once again handed her a thousand Rubik's Cube Coins.

“Because I'm beautiful.”

Before anyone could ask, Tang Guo raised her head and declared, “This waiter has excellent taste and the manners of a true gentleman. He understands that beauties deserve to be cherished.”

Yin Xiaofei believed her.

Yi Yingxue wasn't sure whether to believe it or not, but after observing things carefully, she had noticed that only Tang Guo enjoyed such treatment.
