Chapter 1193: The River God’s Bride 28
Hearing Lihua’s words, Yu’er’s face fell slightly, though he still nodded obediently. “Alright… then,” he said, his tone tinged with disappointment. After handing over the hairpin, he turned and left, his steps noticeably slower than before, his mood clearly weighed down. In his heart, he couldn’t help but feel confused—she had liked the gift, so why was she still unwilling to spend time with him?
Watching him go, Tang Wan immediately leaned closer to Bingtong and whispered, “Tongtong, let’s move aside first. Don’t let Yu’er notice us.”
“Alright,” Bingtong agreed at once. He pulled her gently with him, and the two quickly slipped into the shadow of another nearby stall.
Once Yu’er had gone, Tang Wan turned to the white dolphin demon who had accompanied them and said quietly, “Xiao Bai, take this hairpin and give it to that girl. Then invite her to go out and see how she responds.”
The white dolphin looked slightly confused but nodded obediently. “Yes, Madam.”
Taking the hairpin Tang Wan had removed from her own hair, he approached the shop where Lihua stood.
As expected, when Lihua saw the new gift, her face immediately lit up with a bright smile. However, when the white dolphin extended an invitation for her to go out, she once again refused, citing that she was too busy.
With no other choice, the white dolphin returned.
Seeing this, Tang Wan’s brows lifted slightly. It was already clear—this chipmunk demon had no intention of building a relationship. She simply enjoyed receiving gifts while keeping others at a distance.
Just then, another figure approached.
This time, it was a pig demon with a sturdy build and confident demeanor. The moment Lihua saw him, her entire expression changed, her face blooming with delight as she hurried over, her movements lively and eager. “Brother Pig, you’re here!”
“Mm,” the pig demon replied with a grin. “Come on, there’s a fireworks show in the Demon City tonight. I’ll take you to see it.”
“Brother Pig, you’re so good to me!” Lihua said sweetly. “Wait a moment, I’ll get ready!”
Soon enough, she reappeared, now wearing both hairpins—the one from Yu’er and the one from the white dolphin—adorned proudly in her hair. With a pleased expression, she left happily at the pig demon’s side.
Tang Wan watched the entire scene unfold, her expression turning subtly complicated.
Before she could speak, Bingtong’s voice sounded, low and edged with displeasure. “What is this? Isn’t that mouse demon clearly playing tricks?”
Tang Wan glanced at him, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes. He had seen through it immediately.
At this moment, Bingtong turned to the white dolphin and said firmly, “Xiao Bai, go bring Yu’er back. Let him see her true nature with his own eyes. Such a scheming woman is not worthy of becoming the partner of my disciple.”
“Yes, Master He!” the white dolphin responded, quickly departing.
Not long after, Yu’er was brought back. The moment he arrived, he saw Lihua standing side by side with the pig demon, laughing happily as they watched the fireworks display together.
The sight struck him hard.
His expression crumpled, and tears began to fall once again, one after another, as he stood there, unable to look away.
Bingtong frowned, clearly about to reprimand him, but before he could speak, Tang Wan stepped in first.
“Yu’er, what’s the use of crying?” she said calmly. “At least now you’ve seen her true face. Isn’t that better than being kept in the dark?”
Yu’er sniffled, his voice trembling. “But… I still like Miss Lihua…”
Tang Wan paused, momentarily at a loss for words. Then she asked directly, “What exactly do you like about her?”
Yu’er hesitated before answering honestly, “I like… her figure. She looks strong… and that makes me feel safe.”
Tang Wan froze.
For a brief moment, she had no idea how to respond.
So it wasn’t her face… it was her build?
Taking a quiet breath to steady herself, she finally said, “In that case… why don’t you consider a pig demon instead? Wouldn’t they suit your preferences even better?”
Her tone was perfectly serious, though her eyes carried a faint, helpless amusement.
