Chapter 1192: The River God’s Bride 27

When Tang Wan opened her eyes again, a wave of lively noise immediately flooded her ears.

“Come take a look! Finest fox fur!”

“Don’t miss out! Our shop has long trousers worn by emperors and foot bindings used by queens!”

“Boss, can you make it cheaper? This is too expensive!”

“No bargaining! If you can’t afford it, don’t touch!”

Tang Wan blinked, momentarily dazed.

For a brief second, she almost thought she had arrived at some kind of bustling marketplace.

But when her vision cleared, the scene before her left her completely captivated.

A wide street stretched out ahead, filled with all kinds of demons in countless strange and varied forms, moving about leisurely. On both sides of the road hung rows upon rows of lanterns, their soft glow weaving together into a hazy, dreamlike illumination. The light wasn’t dazzling, but under the dim night sky, it created an atmosphere that felt both mysterious and enchanting, as if she had stepped into a world straight out of fantasy.

“My lady, are you awake?” Bingtong’s voice sounded gently beside her.

Tang Wan came back to herself and quickly looked up at him. “Tongtong… is this the Demon City?”

“Mm,” he nodded. “Are you hungry? I’ll take you to try some of the food here.”

“Alright!” Tang Wan replied, her curiosity fully awakened.

Before long, Bingtong brought her to a bustling food street. The air was thick with rich, enticing aromas, each scent more tempting than the last, drifting toward her from every direction.

“Tongtong, it smells amazing,” Tang Wan said, unable to hide her delight.

“The ingredients here contain spiritual energy,” Bingtong explained. “They’re different from what you find in the human world.”

With that, he led her from stall to stall, letting her sample all kinds of unique delicacies. As they walked, Tang Wan’s mood grew lighter, and by the time they reached the end of the street, she was thoroughly satisfied.

Just then, a familiar voice suddenly reached her ears.

“Miss Lihua, I specially made this pearl hairpin for you. I hope you like it!”

Tang Wan paused slightly.

Wasn’t that Yu’er’s voice?

Bingtong clearly heard it as well, and the two of them instinctively turned toward the source, walking over to a nearby side alley.

There, they saw Yu’er standing with a hopeful expression, holding out a delicate pink pearl hairpin. In front of him stood a girl with a round figure and a soft, full face.

Tang Wan couldn’t help but look at her more closely.

The girl was undeniably plump—by her estimation, she must weigh at least two hundred catties—but surprisingly, her features remained delicate and pleasing. Her face did not appear distorted in the slightest; instead, it was round and charming, giving her an unexpectedly adorable appearance.

It was an unusual combination, one Tang Wan had never seen before.

At that moment, the girl—Lihua—looked down at the pink pearl hairpin, and her eyes lit up instantly. “Pink pearls? They’re so beautiful! Yu’er, where did you find something like this? I really like it!”

Hearing her words, Yu’er’s entire demeanor brightened, excitement flashing across his face.

Just as Madam had said—this gift was the right choice.

“Haha… as long as you like it!” Yu’er said eagerly. “Miss Lihua, would you like to walk around with me for a while?”

Lihua carefully held the hairpin close, but her expression soon turned apologetic. “I’m sorry, Yu’er. I’m really busy tonight. I only managed to come out to see you by squeezing in a bit of time. How about another day? I still have things to take care of.”

Her tone was gentle, but there was no mistaking her refusal.
