Chapter 1042: Doomsday Big Boss 46
Hearing Hu Tongxia’s mockery, Xu Jintang took a deep breath, then suddenly let out a cold laugh. “Fine. If that’s the case, then let everyone choose for themselves.”
With that, he immediately gathered everyone in the base.
Once they heard about Ling Chi’s base—surrounded by zombies and housing over three thousand people—most people shook their heads without hesitation. Just two days ago, Hu Tongxia and the others had brought back a huge amount of food, enough to last a year or two. Leaving now meant stepping into uncertainty.
More importantly, the air-raid shelter was relatively safe, with very few zombies nearby. In contrast, the university town was full of danger. The choice, for most, was obvious.
However, those who had always been close to Hu Tongxia stepped forward without hesitation.
“Tongxia, we trust you!”
They knew him well. No matter how much he clashed with Xu Jintang, he wouldn’t recklessly drag them into danger.
On Li Feng’s side, a few newcomers also chose to follow. “We’ll go with you too.”
In the end, only about ten people were willing to leave with Hu Tongxia.
Seeing this, Xu Jintang secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He was even a little pleased—these people had never fully listened to him anyway. Now that they were leaving, it would save him trouble managing the base.
At that moment, Tang Wan went to find Liu Feifei.
“Feifei, are you coming with me?” she asked softly.
Liu Feifei shook her head. “No, Wanwan. You go. Jintang is still here… I won’t leave.”
Tang Wan wasn’t surprised. She simply nodded, then said, “Alright. But remember, we’ll always be good sisters. If Xu Jintang ever treats you badly, come find me—or find a way to let me know. And no matter what happens, don’t compromise. You deserve the best.”
“Mm!” Liu Feifei nodded, her eyes full of reluctance.
After confirming who would leave, Tang Wan and Hu Tongxia packed lightly and departed with Ling Chi.
On the truck, one of the companions couldn’t help asking, “Tongxia, aren’t we taking any food? We worked so hard to collect all that!”
Hu Tongxia raised his eyelids lazily. “It’s already good enough that I’m taking you with me. If I take the food too, Xu Jintang might just tear me apart.”
Everyone burst into laughter.
Still, he knew their concern was real, so he glanced at Ling Chi. “Team Ling, mind explaining things to them?”
Ling Chi smiled and nodded. “Don’t worry. After the apocalypse began, we collected all the supplies in the surrounding area. Food and clothing won’t be a problem—we can even maintain self-sufficiency.”
Hearing this, everyone finally relaxed. Trusting Hu Tongxia was one thing, but seeing organized soldiers, equipment, and supplies gave them real confidence.
That night, nearly ten trucks sped toward the university town.
Along the way, under the soldiers’ guidance, Hu Tongxia and the others excitedly took turns firing guns and clearing zombies from the road. Watching him act like a kid with a new toy, Tang Wan smiled helplessly.
Still… he was clearly happy.
After arriving at the university town base, they quickly registered and were assigned clean living quarters. They washed up and had a proper meal.
Compared to the cramped air-raid shelter, the environment here was far more comfortable.
And once basic needs were satisfied… other thoughts naturally began to surface.
With the improved conditions, Hu Tongxia’s mind couldn’t help but wander.
