Chapter 1039: Doomsday Big Boss 43
Hearing Tang Wan’s question, Ling Chi glanced at her briefly before replying, “At a base within this city.”
Tang Wan nodded slightly. “If I remember correctly, it’s near the university town. That area is heavily infested with zombies now, isn’t it?”
Ling Chi didn’t deny it. “Yes. We had to clear a path with great difficulty just to get here.”
His tone was calm, but the implication was obvious—if they didn’t secure more weapons soon, their base wouldn’t last. Once the zombies broke through, they wouldn’t have enough firepower to defend themselves.
Tang Wan wasn’t surprised. After a brief pause, she continued, “Are you still taking in survivors? How many people are there now?”
“About three thousand, including survivors,” Ling Chi replied.
This time, even Tang Wan couldn’t hide her surprise.
Hu Tongxia and the others were also visibly taken aback.
In the current apocalypse, a base capable of sustaining three thousand people—especially with ordinary survivors included—was extremely rare. Over the past six months, they hadn’t encountered anything on that scale.
But thinking about it, it made sense.
Their air-raid shelter was located in the suburbs, while the university town lay in the more urban eastern district. With zombies everywhere, neither side would stray too far from their own territory. Without overlapping routes, it was only natural they hadn’t crossed paths before.
Seeing their reaction, Ling Chi spoke again, his tone turning firm. “That’s why we can’t give up too many weapons. With our current situation, if the base is breached, we won’t be able to protect the civilians.”
His words carried weight.
Tang Wan’s thoughts shifted.
In the original storyline, when Ling Chi eventually led his people to the air-raid shelter, their numbers had dropped to just over a thousand.
Which meant…
More than half of them had died along the way.
That realization made her expression subtly change.
If moving three thousand people was that dangerous, then relocating everyone here wasn’t realistic. But if only the ability users moved instead…
That would be much more feasible.
With that thought, Tang Wan turned to Hu Tongxia.
“Tongtong, what do you think about going to their base instead?”
Hu Tongxia blinked, clearly caught off guard. “Hm?”
Tang Wan explained calmly, “The air-raid shelter works for now, but it can’t support too many people long-term. As more survivors join, space will become a problem.”
She paused, then continued, “But the university town is different. There are plenty of high-rise buildings. Once the surrounding zombies are cleared, it can accommodate far more people. The early stage might be harder, but in the long run, it’s much more sustainable.”
What she didn’t say aloud was just as important.
Compared to Xu Jintang, she trusted Ling Chi far more.
A man willing to risk his life for his comrades wouldn’t turn into someone obsessed with power.
Hu Tongxia didn’t hesitate long.
“If you want to go, we go,” he said simply. “I don’t mind. But…”
He glanced back at the others. “They might not agree.”
Before he could say more, the other ability users immediately spoke up.
“We have no objections!”
Their answers came quickly and without hesitation.
