Chapter 1038: Doomsday Big Boss 42

Just as everyone was about to head down, the man with enhanced hearing suddenly stiffened, his face turning pale.

“There are people coming!” he said urgently. “At least five trucks… a lot of them!”

Hu Tongxia’s expression sharpened instantly. “Five trucks? Then we’ll cover this first.”

Without wasting a second, everyone moved.

The lid was quickly shut, and a layer of sand—used earlier for storing potatoes—was spread over it, disguising the entrance completely.

Only then did Tang Wan step forward. “Tongtong, should we go up and take a look?”

She already knew who it was.

Ling Chi.

In the original plot, he had come here with a military team. The hidden base—and the weapons—originally belonged to them, so naturally he knew about it.

But he shouldn’t have appeared this early.

Then again… the plot had already shifted. She hadn’t died like before, so everything was already off track.

When they emerged from the cellar, the factory entrance was already occupied.

Two rows of young men stood in formation, straight-backed and disciplined.

At the front, a tall man stepped forward. “Hello, comrades. I’m Ling Chi.”

Hu Tongxia’s eyes narrowed slightly as he took in the group—at least a hundred people.

“Hu Tongxia,” he replied calmly. “You here for potatoes too?”

Ling Chi smiled faintly. “Potatoes are only part of the reason. If you’ve gathered enough, it’s best you leave early.”

The meaning was obvious.

Hu Tongxia let out a quiet chuckle. “Let’s not waste time pretending. Before the apocalypse, we wouldn’t dare touch what’s down there. But now? You need weapons to survive… and so do we.”

At that, Ling Chi’s expression shifted slightly. “You’ve already found it?”

Hu Tongxia nodded. “We have.”

Then he glanced at the people behind Ling Chi. “Since we’re here for the same thing, let’s be direct. We want half.”

Ling Chi frowned.

Hu Tongxia’s confidence made it clear—he wasn’t someone to underestimate.

But handing over half the weapons?

Impossible.

Before the apocalypse, these weapons would never have been allowed into civilian hands. Now, with only a few ability users on his side, they relied on these weapons for survival.

Giving half away would put his entire team at risk.

Just as he was about to refuse—

Tang Wan suddenly spoke.

“Tongtong, I don’t think we need to split it.”

Hu Tongxia turned to her. “Hm?”

Ling Chi’s gaze also shifted toward her.

Tang Wan stepped forward slightly, her tone calm but deliberate.

“Captain Ling,” she said, “where is your unit stationed?”
