Chapter 1036: Doomsday Big Boss 40
During this period, Xu Jintang had gradually begun to position himself as the leader of the base.
He rarely went out personally to collect supplies anymore. Instead, he arranged for others to do those tasks. But he was very good at winning people over—especially outside. Every time someone from the base was about to be attacked by zombies, he would appear at the most critical moment and “rescue” them.
Coupled with his solid strength and his seemingly fair and just conduct within the base, people slowly began to trust him. Over time, he naturally became the most influential figure there.
But in Hu Tongxia’s eyes, someone like Xu Jintang wasn’t worth following at all.
He wasn’t qualified.
When Li Feng heard Hu Tongxia’s words, he smiled and said, “Brother Hu, if you don’t mind, you can take Zhang Chun and the others with you. Chief Xu and I will go pick up the rest of our people.”
The moment the words “Chief Xu” were spoken, Hu Tongxia let out a cold laugh.
“Chief Xu?” he repeated lazily. “Who told you he’s the leader of our base?”
Li Feng froze, a hint of embarrassment flashing across his face as he glanced at Xu Jintang.
Xu Jintang’s expression darkened. “Hu Tongxia! Don’t pick a fight for no reason.”
“Pick a fight?” Hu Tongxia sneered. “My time is valuable. Do you really think you’re worth me wasting it on you? I just think some people have a bit too much confidence—calling themselves leader so soon.”
Xu Jintang didn’t get angry. Instead, he smiled faintly. “If I’m not worthy, then are you? Why don’t we let everyone vote and see who they’re willing to follow?”
Hu Tongxia waved his hand dismissively.
“Forget it. I don’t have the time to compete with you over this nonsense. I’m not interested in your little power games. As long as you don’t get in my way—and stay away from Wanwan—I don’t care what title you give yourself.”
He gave a quiet scoff.
Did Xu Jintang really think everyone was obsessed with power like he was?
The world was already in chaos. He had no interest in becoming some base leader and taking responsibility for a crowd of people.
As long as nothing interfered with him and Tang Wan, Xu Jintang could do whatever he liked.
Hearing this, Xu Jintang secretly felt relieved.
Right now, the biggest variable in the base was Hu Tongxia. As long as he didn’t cause trouble, Xu Jintang could firmly secure his position.
This was the apocalypse—everything was different now. If he planned carefully, he might even rise higher in the future… perhaps even become the leader of what remained of humanity.
With that in mind, Xu Jintang said, “Don’t worry. I have no interest in Tang Wan.”
To him, she was just a woman who used to chase after him. Why she had suddenly turned to Hu Tongxia didn’t matter—it was actually a good thing.
Without her clinging to him, his days had been much more peaceful.
He then turned to Li Feng. “It’s getting late. Let’s head out.”
Li Feng nodded. “Alright, I’ll lead the way.”
But inwardly, he was thinking—
Hu Tongxia and Xu Jintang clearly didn’t get along. Yet Xu Jintang was still so confident in front of him… did that mean he was even stronger?
If that were the case, then he had better be careful not to offend him.
After Xu Jintang and Li Feng left, Hu Tongxia led Tang Wan toward another truck.
Once they got inside, Tang Wan turned to him and asked, “Tongtong, where are we going this time?”
