Chapter 1023: Doomsday Big Boss 27
Just as Tang Wan was about to head out, a knock sounded on the door.
“Wan Wan, are you up? I brought you food.”
Hearing that, Tang Wan’s lips curved slightly. She stepped forward, opened the simple wooden door, and was immediately met with Hu Tongxia’s bright, eager gaze.
“Tong Tong, good morning,” she said with a smile.
The moment he heard that nickname, Hu Tongxia’s ears twitched subtly.
Tong Tong?
She gave him a nickname?
In an instant, his mood lifted. “Morning,” he replied quickly. “I brought you food. No need to go to the kitchen—there’s nothing left now.”
Tang Wan nodded. “Mm. Come in.”
Although all the rooms in the shelter were laid out the same, this was still Tang Wan’s room. The moment she invited him in, Hu Tongxia couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.
Step one—successfully entering her room.
If he could already come in… then wasn’t everything else just a matter of time?
Inside, the room was simple but noticeably more complete than most. When he had helped move furniture earlier, he hadn’t forgotten to bring in a couple of extra chairs, so it didn’t feel bare.
He set the food down on the table, then glanced around.
He had been here before, when he installed her bed—but this time felt completely different.
Her light pajamas were casually laid on the bed, and beside it sat a pair of soft, cat-shaped slippers. The small space carried traces of her everywhere, subtle but impossible to ignore.
It felt… strangely tempting.
At that moment, Tang Wan’s voice pulled him back. “Tongtong, you haven’t eaten yet, right? Let’s eat together.”
Hu Tongxia had been waiting for exactly that.
He immediately sat down across from her without hesitation. “Mm.”
The two of them began eating breakfast face to face.
Halfway through, Hu Tongxia suddenly remembered something. “Oh right,” he said, “when I went out yesterday, I ran into another group of ability users. They might come to our base.”
Safe places were rare now. Their air-raid shelter, while not perfect, had one key advantage—very few zombies nearby. That alone was enough to attract people.
But more people also meant more trouble.
And his Wan Wan…
She was pretty, capable, kind—and far too eye-catching. If more men showed up, wouldn’t they all start looking at her?
Just thinking about it made him feel irritated.
Tang Wan looked slightly surprised. “How many people?”
“Seventy or eighty, I think,” Hu Tongxia replied. “And they all seem to be ability users.”
Hearing that, Tang Wan immediately understood.
This was the first group to join the base in the original storyline. Among them was a female ability user who would later become part of Xu Jintang’s harem.
It was also because of her that Xu Jintang had been able to smoothly absorb this group into the base.
After all, at the start of the apocalypse, the gap in strength between ability users wasn’t huge. Xu Jintang was considered strong among their current group—but compared to a team made entirely of ability users, he would only be above average.
Especially since the leader of that team had been a mercenary even before awakening his powers. His combat ability was already formidable, and now, with his abilities on top of that, his strength was even more pronounced.
