Chapter 1014: Doomsday Big Boss 18

Tang Wan took the vegetable porridge and scooped up a spoonful. The moment it entered her mouth, her expression froze. In the next second, she spat it out. “So salty! Who made this porridge?” She immediately turned to Hu Tongxia. “Don’t eat it. It’s like someone poured a whole jar of salt into it.”

Hu Tongxia was stunned. She could taste this? Then why hadn’t she noticed the bitterness of the pigeon yesterday? Or… was she only insensitive to certain flavors? Suppressing his thoughts, he quickly said, “Really? Then don’t eat it. Wait here—I’ll check if there’s anything else in the kitchen.” With that, he picked up both bowls and went back inside.

After looking around, his gaze landed on a bitter gourd. An idea formed instantly. He quickly processed it into juice, then grabbed a few pancakes and brushed them with chili oil before returning. “There’s not much besides porridge,” he said, setting the food down. “Make do with this. I made some cucumber juice for you—have a drink.” His expression was calm, but inside he was already planning—if she didn’t notice anything, he could just say he mistook bitter gourd for cucumber and let her realize the problem herself.

Tang Wan glanced at the cup, slightly surprised he had gone to the trouble, but still nodded. “Thank you.” She took a sip. Her expression froze again. But since he had made it, she forced herself to swallow before looking at him with a strange expression. “This is bitter gourd juice, right? It’s bitter.”

Hu Tongxia was startled. She could taste bitterness? Then what was going on yesterday? Still, he immediately pretended ignorance. “Really? Isn’t that cucumber? Sorry, I must’ve grabbed the wrong one.” Tang Wan shook her head lightly. “It’s fine. Bitter gourd is good too—it clears heat.” As she spoke, she took another sip.

Hu Tongxia’s eyes widened slightly, his heartbeat quickening. “You said it’s bitter… why are you still drinking it?” Tang Wan replied calmly, “You made it. I can’t just waste it.” Hu Tongxia fell silent, then said stiffly, “If it’s bitter, don’t drink it. There should be milk in the fridge…” But Tang Wan simply shook her head. “It’s fine. I’ve been feeling a bit heated lately. This is just right. Sit down and eat.”

Hu Tongxia could only sit down, taking a bite of his pancake absentmindedly. After finishing the juice, Tang Wan picked up her pancake and took a couple of bites—then immediately inhaled sharply. “What’s going on with breakfast today? First too salty, now too spicy.” She looked at him. “Don’t you think this pancake is very spicy?”

“No,” Hu Tongxia answered quickly, then glanced at her plate as if just noticing. “Yours has chili oil on it. Don’t eat that—take mine.” He pushed half of his own pancake toward her.
