Chapter 1013: Doomsday Big Boss 17
Hu Tongxia quickly returned to the air-raid shelter.
Since his own sense of taste was fine, then the problem must lie with Tang Wan. But even so, for her to roast pigeon into something that tasted like that… it was almost impressive in its own way.
Not long after, Tang Wan came back.
Hu Tongxia looked at her with a complicated expression. He hesitated for a moment, clearly wanting to say something, but in the end, he held back.
Once they sat down again, Tang Wan noticed that the piece of meat in his hand was already gone.
“Why didn’t you cut more for yourself?” she asked, picking up the knife and slicing off a tender piece from the pigeon’s belly for him.
Seeing this, Hu Tongxia’s mouth twitched slightly. The words that had nearly slipped out were swallowed back down as he silently accepted the meat and ate, his gaze drifting toward Tang Wan from time to time.
Naturally, Tang Wan noticed.
She looked at him with an innocent expression. “Why do you keep staring at me?”
“It’s nothing,” Hu Tongxia replied vaguely. “Just… observing your taste.”
Hearing this, Tang Wan took another bite, swallowed it, and said matter-of-factly, “Of course it’s good. I made it myself. Eat more.”
Seeing her so earnest and satisfied, Hu Tongxia could only nod stiffly. “Yeah.”
But inside, he was torn.
Should he tell her that there might be something wrong with her sense of taste?
Looking at how happily she was eating, though, he couldn’t bring himself to say it.
…
Before long, only half of the pigeon remained.
Tang Wan wiped her hands and said, “Take the rest to your three friends.”
“Alright,” Hu Tongxia agreed.
“Then I’ll head back first,” she added, standing up.
After this meal, his favorability had already risen to 50. That was enough progress for today. Staying longer might only lead to misunderstandings… like him thinking she was trying to seduce him again.
“Okay. It’s getting late—go get some rest,” Hu Tongxia said.
He picked up the remaining pigeon and left as well.
Still unwilling to accept it, he distributed the leftover meat among his friends to confirm his suspicion.
But after tasting it, they all reacted the same way—bitter, strange, and completely unappetizing.
At that point, Hu Tongxia couldn’t help but feel a bit of sympathy.
If not for this, he would never have known that Tang Wan’s sense of taste was off.
After some thought, he decided he should tell her… but gently.
He just needed to figure out how to put it.
…
The next morning.
It was Tang Wan’s turn on duty.
After waking up, she made her usual rounds around the air-raid shelter, clearing out a few wandering zombies nearby before heading back for breakfast.
Hu Tongxia arrived around the same time.
When he saw her, he greeted her with a smile, then walked over casually. “Looks like we’re late. Only vegetable porridge left.”
“It’s fine,” Tang Wan said. “This is enough.”
Hu Tongxia nodded. “Then sit down. I’ll get you a bowl.”
“Alright, thanks.”
Seeing that she didn’t refuse, he walked over to the pot and filled two bowls of porridge. Then, without anyone noticing, he added an extra spoonful of salt into one of them and stirred it quickly.
Carrying both bowls back, he placed one in front of Tang Wan.
“Here,” he said.
The bowl he gave her… was the overly salty one.
