Chapter 1012: Doomsday Big Boss 16

Seeing the obvious delight on Hu Tongxia’s face, the corners of Tang Wan’s lips lifted slightly.

In this world, Hu Tongxia was the type—temperamental, impulsive, a little wild and unruly. If she had to compare him to something, he was like a human-shaped husky. But just like a husky, once you won his favor, he could turn into an obedient, clingy puppy in an instant.

After turning the pigeon over the fire for a while, Tang Wan said, “Alright, it should be done.”

Inwardly, she thought with confidence—her roasting technique was based on the tutorial Little Cutie had given her. It should be flawless.

Hu Tongxia nodded, already drawn in by the rich aroma. “Smells amazing. It has to taste great. Didn’t expect you to be such a good cook,” he said, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.

Seeing his eagerness, Tang Wan sped up her movements. Soon, she peeled away the foil, revealing golden, glistening meat beneath. She picked up a knife, cut off a pigeon leg, and handed it to him.

“Try it.”

“Mm!” Hu Tongxia accepted it immediately.

He brought it closer, inhaling the sweet, savory scent before taking a bite.

But in the next second, the excited expression on his face froze.

The taste…

Why was it so bitter? And there was an odd, indescribable aftertaste that made it even worse.

Wasn’t there honey on it?

At that moment, Tang Wan asked casually while continuing to slice the meat, “How is it?”

“…It’s good,” Hu Tongxia replied quickly, forcing himself to swallow. There was no way he could tell her that, despite how amazing it looked, the taste was… questionable.

Hearing this, Tang Wan felt reassured. She cut a piece for herself and took a bite.

Instantly, satisfaction filled her expression.

Fragrant, slightly sweet—it was perfectly done.

Seeing her obvious enjoyment, Hu Tongxia couldn’t help but feel puzzled.

He was eating something that was clearly bitter… so why did she look like it was delicious?

After finishing her bite, Tang Wan cut another piece. “I’ll bring some to Feifei,” she said. “You eat first—I’ll be back soon.”

“Alright,” Hu Tongxia nodded.

Once she left, he took another bite, chewing slowly this time.

Still terrible.

There was no way around it.

Frowning, he stared at the pigeon. Tang Wan clearly thought it tasted good… could it be his taste buds were off?

Unable to settle his doubts, he cut off another piece and walked into the shelter. Spotting a nearby ability user, he waved him over.

“Hey, try this.”

Hearing there was meat, the man came over immediately and took a bite.

The moment it hit his mouth, he spat it out.

“Pah! What the hell is this? It’s bitter and weird—how can you eat this?”

Hu Tongxia’s eyes lit up. “So you think it’s bitter too? And there’s that strange taste, right?”

“Of course! You call this food?” the man snapped, glaring at him.

Relief washed over Hu Tongxia.

So it wasn’t just him.

He quickly smiled. “Alright, alright—don’t be mad. I ate it too, didn’t I?”

As he spoke, he pulled out a piece of chocolate from his pocket and handed it over. “Here, have something sweet to get rid of the taste.”

The man’s expression immediately softened as he accepted it. “Thanks.”

After all, in times like these, chocolate was a rare and valuable treat—quick energy in a small, precious form.
