Chapter 1010: Doomsday Big Boss 14

Hu Tongxia didn’t care what the others thought, nor did he bother explaining. In fact, he was rather pleased that they had misunderstood his relationship with Tang Wan.

Tang Wan was quite popular in the base, and there were plenty of men interested in her. If people believed there was something between the two of them, then at least this group—who were on good terms with him—wouldn’t start harboring thoughts they shouldn’t.

With that in mind, Hu Tongxia gave them a vague nod. “Thanks, brothers.”

“Hey, what’s there to thank?” one of them laughed. “We’re off. If Tang Wan asks, I’ll say I’m sick.”

“I’ll say I’ve got training.”

“I’ll just say I got hurt and can’t go out!”

Seeing that they had even prepared excuses, Hu Tongxia grinned. “Alright, I’ll treat you guys next time.”

“We’ll be waiting!”

The three of them laughed and returned to their rooms.

By half past five, Tang Wan’s roast pigeon was almost ready.

At that moment, Hu Tongxia arrived—alone.

Tang Wan glanced at him. “The pigeon’s almost done. Did you call the others?”

“I did,” Hu Tongxia replied without hesitation. “But they all had something come up. None of them could make it.”

“Oh?” Tang Wan raised her brows slightly, looking at him with mild surprise.

Inside, however, she let out a quiet scoff.

So you’re the one who chased them away, and now you’re acting like this?

Still, she had no intention of exposing him. After all, she didn’t want anyone else showing up to interrupt them either.

Hu Tongxia continued smoothly, “One of them’s sick, another got injured, and the last one’s busy training. Anyway, the pigeon’s big enough. I’ll just send them some later.”

Tang Wan nodded as if accepting it. “Alright then.”

She reached out, took the foil-wrapped pigeon off the fire, brushed it with a layer of honey, and placed it back to roast.

“Give it a few more minutes,” she said. “If you’re hungry, there are biscuits—you can eat something first.”

“I’m fine. I can wait,” Hu Tongxia replied immediately.

Then, as if remembering something, he added in a deliberately casual tone, “Oh, right. I’ve already set up your bed. The mattress is in place too. You can sleep on it tonight.”

Tang Wan looked at him in apparent surprise. “Really? Thank you! I thought you didn’t like me, but I didn’t expect you to be this considerate. Seems like I misunderstood you before.”

Hearing this, Hu Tongxia felt an inexplicable sense of relief.

So she didn’t dislike him after all.

In fact… after today, she should have a better impression of him, right?

Seizing the opportunity, he quickly explained, “You really did misunderstand. I wasn’t trying to target you on purpose. It’s just… seeing you chase after Xu Jintang like that, I thought…”

He paused briefly, then continued, “I just wanted to wake you up a bit.”

The more he said it, the more reasonable it sounded to himself.

After all, he had often mocked Xu Jintang in the past—it wasn’t entirely out of place.

Hearing this, Tang Wan almost laughed.

What nonsense.

But outwardly, she simply looked at him with a hint of surprise.

“Because of that?” she asked softly. Then she shook her head. “But… I never wanted to chase Xu Jintang. He’s Feifei’s fiancé.”
