Chapter 984: Beautiful Girl (29)
The day before school started, Tang Guo met with thirty of the world's top lawyers.
These
attorneys, who had come from all corners of the globe, were all somewhat
astonished when they discovered that each of them had been invited to the same
villa. They exchanged surprised glances.
They
were all famous figures in the legal world, colleagues by profession, and
naturally knew something about one another.
After
greeting each other, and seeing that their host had yet to appear, they began
discussing the circumstances that had brought them here.
Only
after comparing notes did they realize that every one of them had received the
invitation by email—and all through their private email accounts.
Though
none of them disclosed the exact terms of the deal that had brought them here,
everyone present was intelligent enough to guess that they had each been
offered something irresistible, something that made the journey worthwhile.
When
Tang Guo finally appeared before them, everyone rose to their feet in surprise.
Many years later, whenever they recalled this extraordinary meeting, they still
found it unforgettable.
“Welcome,
everyone, and thank you for coming.”
They
had come prepared. Although Tang Guo spoke in English, those who were less
proficient listened through translators and understood her words.
Even
though they were deeply surprised that the person who had summoned them was
merely an Eastern girl who looked no older than her teens, they remained
patient.
Each
greeted her in his own familiar language, and introductions were exchanged all
around.
“The
fact that you've come here means you're willing to take this case,” Tang Guo
said calmly, seated on the sofa. “Everything written in the email is true. The
people I intend to sue are exactly those individuals. I invited all of you and
offered items that interest you because I want only one thing—to win this
lawsuit. You are the finest lawyers in the world. With such a powerful
alliance, I trust you won't disappoint me.”
The
attorneys looked at one another before one of them said, “Since we've come
here, naturally we are confident of winning.”
A
lawyer with an excited expression added, “And I'm not here solely for the
treasure Miss Tang offered me.”
He
smiled and continued, “I believe the others are the same. None of us have ever
handled a case like this before. More than anything, we're driven by curiosity
and interest. Miss Tang, your ideas are far too mysterious, and what you're
doing requires tremendous courage. Like you, we've come for one purpose—to
win.”
If
they succeeded, what they would gain would be far more valuable than the
treasures Tang Guo had promised.
This
would become the world's first truly extraordinary lawsuit.
After
all, there were simply too many defendants.
“However,”
another lawyer said, “we'll need a great deal of preparation. Gathering
evidence will take time. Miss Tang, if you're not in a hurry, we'd like a year
to collect everything thoroughly and ensure the other side has no room to
refute us.”
“No,”
Tang Guo replied. “I'm in a hurry.”
“You
only have one month to prepare.”
The
lawyers exchanged glances and began discussing quietly among themselves. They
all felt that such a schedule would be difficult.
“I
invited you here because the evidence is already sufficient,” Tang Guo said.
“Whatever evidence you need, I have it.”
She
placed a thick stack of discs onto the coffee table.
“I
believe there's nothing more convincing than what's contained inside these. If,
with all this in your hands, you still can't win this lawsuit…” she said
lightly, “then I imagine your reputations will be ruined.”
Far from being offended by her words, the lawyers merely stared at the thick pile of discs with burning curiosity.
