Chapter 980: Beautiful Girl (25)
Chang Zhan's eyes became somewhat complicated. He almost blurted out, Are you stupid? How could those two boys possibly have good intentions? Everything is part of their scheme. They had people spread rumors about you first, then stepped forward to help you. They're just waiting for you to reveal your true colors.
But
he restrained himself.
Hearing
that Tang Guo had no feelings for either of them, he felt there was no need to
continue this topic.
“Remember
what you said. Your social statuses are worlds apart. Getting entangled with
them won't lead to anything good. Your grades are excellent. Right now, you
should focus on studying and getting into a good university. Personal
relationships can wait until later.”
The
system nearly died laughing.
Has
an old professor possessed him or something?
“I
think the same way, Senior Chang Zhan,” Tang Guo replied with a smile. “I'm
working hard to improve my grades.”
“That's
good.”
Chang
Zhan pursed his lips. Seeing Tang Guo continuing to eat her ice cream, he
suddenly blurted out, “Girls shouldn't eat too much ice cream.”
Tang
Guo lifted her eyes and smiled sweetly.
“Got
it. Thank you for your concern, Senior.”
Her
voice was so soft and sweet that Chang Zhan's heart skipped in panic. He
quickly stood up.
“I've
already paid. Finish eating and go home by yourself. I'm leaving.”
“Take
care, Senior. Be careful on your way home!”
Tang
Guo called after him, her voice still as pleasant as ever.
Even
with his back turned, Chang Zhan could imagine that beautiful face and the
smile blooming on it, bright and radiant like flowers in full bloom.
Sitting
in the back of his car, Chang Zhan recalled Tang Guo's words—that she had no
romantic interest in either Zuo Ran or Wei Liang—and felt considerably
relieved.
That
meant the two of them wouldn't be able to hurt her.
Though
they had grown up together, he had never approved of their behavior. If
possible, he would do his best to prevent them from harming innocent girls.
Those
girls who had ulterior motives were one thing.
But
this Tang Guo…
From
what he had observed, she was genuinely a good girl.
Time
flew by, and an entire semester passed.
Surrounded
by endless rumors, Tang Guo welcomed her final examinations.
After
the intense exams came the anxious wait.
When
the results were finally posted, the entire school was stunned.
The
reason was simple.
Tang
Guo's results had completely exceeded everyone's expectations.
Her
grades had always been excellent, fluctuating between third and fifth place in
the grade. She had rarely ever ranked first.
This
time, however, she was first.
Not
only that, she had surpassed the second-place student by several dozen points.
The
runner-up's score was already excellent, yet Tang Guo had only lost a single
point on her Chinese composition.
Everything
else was perfect.
Such
a result left the entire school with mixed emotions.
The
girl they had attacked with words day after day had turned out to be a hidden
genius.
How
were they supposed to feel about that?
Especially
her classmates.
By
now, very few dared discuss her openly in front of Tang Guo.
But
the moment she left, they would gather together and whisper things even uglier
than before.
The
same was true throughout the school.
Perhaps
they all felt that Tang Guo's beauty and outstanding grades were slapping them
in the face.
Faced
with achievements so far beyond their reach, they desperately wanted to drag
her down from the pedestal.
They
had to find some flaw in her, only then could they feel balanced.
It
was like facing someone whose wealth rivaled nations.
At
first, there was admiration.
Then
jealousy.
They
wondered why they themselves weren't as rich.
And
if that wealthy person were suddenly exposed for having a chaotic private life,
those jealous people would immediately laugh and gossip.
The
lives of rich people are really messy.
By
saying such things, it somehow made them feel much better.
And
much more at ease.
