Chapter 934: The Young Empress (71)
"Your subject greets Your Majesty."
Tang
Nuoyue bowed before Tang Guo with trembling caution, every movement
exceptionally proper and respectful, afraid that her younger sister, the
Empress, might suddenly remember the events of the past.
"Enough,
rise, Prince Yue."
"Thank
you, Your Majesty."
An
emperor's words were one thing, but proper etiquette still had to be observed.
Seeing
this, Tang Guo couldn't help laughing.
Tang
Nuoyue might appear foolish on the surface, but after living through two
rebirths, she had indeed grown much wiser. There was even something of the
saying "great wisdom hidden beneath apparent simplicity" about her
now.
"Sit."
Tang
Nuoyue hurriedly sat down, though only half her backside touched the chair. She
maintained impeccable posture, respectful and proper in every detail.
"How
is your health? Have you suffered any lingering effects?"
Hearing
her little sister the Empress expressing concern, Tang Nuoyue relaxed
considerably. Since Her Majesty had made no mention of past matters, she truly
must have let them go.
"I've
recovered very well. There are no aftereffects. Thank you for Your Majesty's
concern."
Tang
Guo smiled faintly and nodded.
"Then
I can rest easy."
"Prince
Yue."
Tang
Nuoyue immediately straightened up.
Her
little sister must have something important to entrust to her.
Her
eyes lowered respectfully, not daring to gaze directly upon that heavenly
beauty. Her manners were flawless.
"Since
you've recovered, it's time for you to accomplish some practical matters. After
all, you are my only elder sister. Previously, your health prevented you from
sharing the burden of the state. But now that you're well, you should go where
you are needed."
Tang
Nuoyue was baffled.
Where
exactly was she needed?
"I've
recently received secret reports that corrupt officials have appeared
throughout the realm. Thus, your first task is to investigate these places
thoroughly for me. Once the evidence is conclusive, you needn't report back.
You may execute them directly."
Tang
Nuoyue's heart turned cold.
Such
a heavy responsibility…
Little
Sister Empress, wasn't this somewhat inappropriate?
"Does
Prince Yue have any concerns?"
Tang
Nuoyue shook her head immediately.
"No.
Your subject was merely wondering how best to begin."
"So
that's all."
Tang
Guo nodded.
"I'll
assign two ministers to accompany you. They are both veteran officials of the
court and loyal to Western Saint Kingdom. Anything you don't understand, simply
consult them."
Tang
Nuoyue secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Good.
Though
she had lived several lifetimes, when it came to court affairs, she was utterly
ignorant.
Since
the Empress trusted her so much, she naturally couldn't disappoint her.
After
all, they were sisters.
Sisters
should help one another, shouldn't they?
As
long as they remained united, there would be no fear of others sowing discord
between them.
Originally,
she had hoped to spend her days as an idle prince.
But
it seemed Her Majesty had no intention of allowing that and still intended to
make use of her.
She
couldn't refuse.
Refusing
would make her seem far too cowardly.
Her
little sister had always been diligent and hardworking. She might look down on
her elder sister and think her useless.
"Your
subject accepts the decree."
Tang
Guo smiled cheerfully, though Tang Nuoyue naturally couldn't see the expression
on her face.
"Set
out tomorrow. There's no need to worry about safety. I'll assign a group of
guards to protect you throughout the journey."
"Thank
you, Your Majesty."
Tang
Nuoyue's grin nearly stretched from ear to ear. Her neat row of teeth was fully
exposed as delight overwhelmed her.
But
remembering where she was, she quickly composed herself and bowed again in
thanks.
After
Tang Nuoyue left, Tang Guo leisurely sipped her tea.
"Having
a sister isn't bad. At least I don't have to handle such troublesome work
myself."
System:
Host, you're truly sinister.
He
had seen those memorials before.
There
wasn't just one region plagued by corruption.
Tang
Nuoyue would never finish investigating everything in less than three or five
years.
She
was leaving happily now, but sooner or later she'd be crying to heaven and
earth.
Host's
revenge was truly impressive.
Tang
Nuoyue was going to work herself to death.
