Chapter 922: The Young Empress (59)
“Imperial Physician Xu, you may leave now.”
As
for Tang Guo's feigned amnesia, the imperial physicians knew nothing of the
truth. They genuinely believed that she had injured her head and lost part of
her memories.
Besides
herself, only the Chief Eunuch and Jing Cheng knew the truth.
Imperial
Physician Xu truly thought she had damaged her brain and was currently
troubled, trying to find a way to restore her memories.
“Yes,
this minister takes his leave.”
Carrying
his medicine box on his back, Imperial Physician Xu stepped out of the sleeping
chambers.
No
sooner had he crossed the threshold than Su Qing stopped him.
“Greetings,
Young Master Su.”
“Imperial
Physician Xu.” Anxiety was written all over Su Qing's face as he lowered his
voice. “How is Her Majesty's condition?”
“Her
Majesty's external injuries are recovering quickly, but…” Imperial Physician Xu
shook his head and pointed to his own temple. “As for the missing memories, we
still cannot determine anything.”
“When
will they return?”
“It
is likely caused by stagnant blood inside the head. Perhaps they will recover
after some time… or perhaps they never will.”
Then
he added somewhat thankfully,
“Fortunately,
Her Majesty has only forgotten many people. The rest of her memories remain
intact.”
Otherwise,
the Western Saint Kingdom would surely descend into chaos.
After
hearing this, Su Qing could hardly believe it. Grabbing Imperial Physician Xu
by the arm, he asked,
“Have
you come up with any solutions?”
“Please
calm yourself, Young Master Su,” Imperial Physician Xu hurriedly replied. “We
all wish to help Her Majesty recover her memories, but since the injury is to
the head, there is currently no specific treatment. We must return and continue
our research.”
“Then
please hurry back and study it.”
Releasing
him, Su Qing apologized,
“I
have offended you.”
Imperial
Physician Xu shook his head, bid him farewell, and hurried toward the Imperial
Medical Bureau with his medicine box.
He
truly had to think carefully about a solution.
Even
if those lost memories were not especially important, they still concerned Her
Majesty.
They
had to find a cure.
Su
Qing remained standing there in a daze, still unwilling to leave.
Seeing
this, the Chief Eunuch said,
“Young
Master Su, Her Majesty is tired today. Please return.”
“I'll
stay a little longer and then leave.”
A
bitter smile hung on Su Qing's lips.
He
remained there until sunset. Darkness gradually enveloped the palace grounds.
Staring
at the tightly shut doors of the sleeping chambers, he let out a sigh.
When
the Chief Eunuch emerged again, he immediately asked,
“Has
the Imperial Consort still not left?”
“The
Empress has decreed that the Imperial Consort will stay here tonight.”
The
moment those words were spoken, Su Qing's face turned pale.
Clenching
his fists, he forced himself to say,
“Then
I'll come again tomorrow.”
He
glanced back at the sleeping chambers before finally turning away.
Beneath
the empty robes was a thin and weakened body.
Inside
that body was an even emptier heart.
He
didn't even know when he had lost it.
He
had foolishly thought himself successful, believing he had been the one
manipulating the Empress.
Was
this the retribution for not understanding the value of something until it was
lost?
At
last, he began to understand Nan Yunchuan's madness.
Only
after truly losing someone could one experience that feeling.
The
next day, before dawn had fully broken, Su Qing was already waiting outside the
Empress's chambers.
When
the Chief Eunuch came out and saw him, she exclaimed,
“Young
Master Su, why are you here so early?”
“I…
I wanted to see Her Majesty. How is she?”
“Her
Majesty has just awakened. She appears to be in good spirits.”
The
Chief Eunuch complained inwardly.
Good
spirits? She's positively glowing and healthier than ever.
Su
Qing asked,
“Then
could you inform Her Majesty that Su Qing has come to see her?”
“Please
wait a moment, Young Master Su. This servant will ask Her Majesty first.”
Su
Qing waited to one side with a bitter smile.
In
the past, the Chief Eunuch would have led him straight inside.
There
would have been no need to ask for permission.
