Chapter 921: The Young Empress (58)

Su Qing walked out of the Empress's chambers in a daze. Instead of returning to his own palace, he remained standing outside, his gaze somewhat vacant.

He had already decided that once the Empress awoke, he would never again approach her with schemes hidden in his heart.

If he still wished to overthrow the Empress's rule, he could think of other methods.

But he had never imagined that a single fall would damage her mind and leave her with missing memories.

Those unfamiliar eyes—

He had never seen such a gaze on the Empress's face before.

She had been so close to him then, yet the way she looked at him made it seem as though an immeasurable distance separated them.

“Chief Eunuch.”

Seeing the Chief Eunuch about to enter, Su Qing quickly called out to her.

She turned around and asked, “Does Young Master Su have any instructions?”

“I only want to ask…” Su Qing said hopefully, “Did the imperial physicians say when Her Majesty's memories might return? Or whether there's any way to help her recover them sooner?”

The Chief Eunuch shook her head.

“No. The imperial physicians said only that Her Majesty's body is weak. As for those lost memories, there is no way to retrieve them. Right now, Her Majesty is still determining how much she has forgotten. But judging from the situation, she seems to have forgotten many people. Fortunately, she can still handle state affairs.”

“Does Her Majesty remember the Imperial Consort?”

The Chief Eunuch nodded.

“She remembers the Imperial Consort. I heard from him that when he found Her Majesty, she was gravely injured. But she opened her eyes and looked at him. Perhaps because of that glance, she remembered him.”

“How many people does Her Majesty still remember?” Su Qing continued. “Why did she forget me?”

“I cannot answer that, Young Master Su. As for how many people Her Majesty remembers, we'll only know after she has seen everyone she is familiar with.”

Su Qing sighed.

“Then I'll wait here. Will Her Majesty still be seeing many people today?”

“Yes.”

“Young Master Su, why don't you return and wait? I'll inform you if there's any news.”

“No.”

Su Qing answered stubbornly.

“I'll wait here.”

He wanted an answer.

He also wanted to know when the Empress might remember again.

Later, he intended to ask the imperial physicians personally.

That day, Su Qing watched one person after another enter the Empress's chambers. Every time someone came out, he would step forward and ask,

“Does Her Majesty remember you?”

“Her Majesty doesn't remember me.”

Whenever he heard that answer, he felt slightly relieved.

So the Empress hadn't forgotten only him.

Knowing that made him feel a little better.

“Does Her Majesty remember you?”

He still couldn't help asking each person who emerged.

And every one of them shook their heads.

The harem numbered only a few dozen people, so it wasn't long before everyone had gone in.

Su Qing had questioned each and every one of them, and all had given him the same answer—

The Empress remembered none of them.

His anxiety eased somewhat.

The fact that she remembered the Imperial Consort was probably because he had appeared beside her at the final moment, leaving a deeper impression on her.

Not because the Empress treated him differently.

After seeing everyone from the harem, Tang Guo had no intention of summoning the court officials.

Those ministers could simply be glanced over during the next court session.

“Your Majesty, Young Master Su is still waiting outside.”

The Chief Eunuch had no choice but to mention it.

In truth, she didn't want to.

Tang Guo asked, “Do you know why he's still waiting out there?”

“Young Master Su is probably waiting for the imperial physicians,” the Chief Eunuch replied. “He wishes to inquire about Your Majesty's condition.”
