Chapter 747: Scandal Queen vs. The White Lotus Actor 18
Wu Liang's voice came through the phone. "How did you get the role in Fairy Demon?"
Tang Wan's expression turned cold almost instantly. Whatever warmth had been there before disappeared, and her voice became noticeably sharper. "How I got it isn't important. I got the role, didn't I? Do you have some objection?"
Wu Liang immediately laughed, trying to smooth things over. "Of course not. I was just asking. Actually, I called because I wanted to talk to you about that role."
"What about it?"
"I don't think you should take it."
Tang Wan raised an eyebrow. She didn't say anything, waiting for him to continue.
"The third female lead in Fairy Demon is a vicious femme fatale. She's ruthless, manipulative, and does all sorts of terrible things. You've only just started recovering from the recent scandal. If you take a role like that now, aren't you worried it'll damage your image even further?"
Wu Liang's tone became increasingly persuasive. "I've actually found a much better project for you. It's a female-led fairy drama, and I've already made arrangements. You'd be playing the lead."
Tang Wan's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Really? What drama?"
" Seeking Immortality. You've heard of it, right? It's been very popular recently, and the cast is excellent. It's also a female-led production, so it's much more suitable for you than that third female lead in Fairy Demon."
As soon as he mentioned the title, both Shang Baitong and Old Wei fell silent.
Anyone who knew even a little about the entertainment industry knew what Fairy Demon represented. It was a major production helmed by a renowned director, with a carefully assembled cast and a huge amount of attention surrounding it. Plenty of actresses would have been willing to fight for even a minor role.
Yet Wu Liang was making it sound as though the third female lead wasn't worth considering.
Tang Wan couldn't help letting out a soft, mocking laugh. "Then tell me. What's so good about this project?"
"Seeking Immortality is already very popular, and the production team is excellent. The cast is also—"
"Who's the male lead?"
Wu Liang paused for barely a moment before giving her a name.
He didn't mention that there had been some changes behind the scenes and that the male lead he'd just named wasn't necessarily the person who would ultimately be involved.
Tang Wan listened quietly.
She knew exactly what kind of drama Seeking Immortality was.
On the surface, it was a female-led cultivation drama. The heroine's name was plastered across the promotional material, and the story was marketed around her journey.
In reality, however, the entire plot revolved around the male lead.
Even the so-called female protagonist had surprisingly little presence and influence on the actual storyline.
Replacing a major film production with that kind of project wasn't a matter of poor judgment.
Wu Liang was deliberately trying to steer her away from Fairy Demon.
Tang Wan didn't expose him.
Instead, she asked casually, "Then who's the male lead in Fairy Demon?"
"Shang Baitong."
"Oh."
Tang Wan's lips curled into a smile.
"So that's how it is."
"What do you mean?" Wu Liang asked.
Tang Wan glanced toward Shang Baitong, who was sitting nearby.
Her expression suddenly brightened.
"Shang Baitong is my ideal type."
Old Wei's hands froze.
Shang Baitong also paused.
Tang Wan, completely unaware of the reactions around her, continued, "And getting the chance to work with someone I like is pretty rare. Why would I give up such a good opportunity?"
Her voice remained light, but the next words carried a sharp edge.
"Besides, you're my agent. So tell me, whose interests are you actually representing?"
The atmosphere in the room immediately became heavier.
Wu Liang fell silent.
He hadn't expected Tang Wan to react so decisively. He had assumed that mentioning a female lead would be enough to tempt her into giving up Fairy Demon. More importantly, he hadn't expected her to see through his intentions so quickly.
For several seconds, there was no response from the other end.
Tang Wan waited patiently before asking, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Wu Liang finally opened his mouth, but the confidence from earlier was gone. "I..."
He didn't know how to answer.
Tang Wan's lips curved into a faint, cold smile.
Across from her, Shang Baitong remained silent throughout the conversation. His expression was still as composed as ever, but his eyes had darkened slightly.
He looked at Tang Wan for a moment longer than necessary.
She liked him.
She wanted to work with him.
And, apparently, he was her ideal type.
For some inexplicable reason, hearing that made him feel rather good.
