Chapter 746: Scandal Queen vs. The White Lotus Actor 17
Old Wei quickly stepped forward with a bright, practiced smile, his tone deliberately lively as he tried to smooth over the strange atmosphere. “Drinking tea? Our Baitong’s tea-making skills are one of a kind.”
Shang Baitong lifted his gaze lazily and glanced at him, his voice
calm but precise. “This is Tang Wan’s tea.”
Old Wei froze for a moment, then turned to look at Tang Wan. She met
his gaze with an easy smile and invited him to sit. Slightly dazed, he walked
over and took a seat, still trying to process the situation. Watching Tang Wan
pour tea with smooth, practiced movements, he couldn’t help but feel a flicker
of surprise. In an industry full of surface-level polish, it was rare to see
someone who actually possessed this kind of quiet refinement.
After taking a sip, Old Wei glanced between the two of them several
times before finally asking the question that had been stuck in his throat.
“So… how did you two meet?”
Tang Wan answered without hesitation, her tone calm yet carrying a
trace of apology. She explained that she had accidentally hit Shang Baitong’s
car earlier that day and, according to the doctor, had caused internal injuries
that required a month of rest. Because of that, she had come to take
responsibility and look after him.
Old Wei nearly choked on his tea. Internal injuries? He looked at
Shang Baitong with disbelief. The excuse sounded like something straight out of
a martial arts drama, yet Tang Wan believed it completely. For a brief second,
he questioned reality itself.
But the warning look Shang Baitong shot him instantly brought him
back to his senses. Years of working together allowed Old Wei to understand the
message without a single word being spoken. The situation flipped in his mind
almost instantly. This was not Tang Wan clinging to Shang Baitong—it was Shang
Baitong deliberately setting a trap and pulling her in step by step.
Realizing this, Old Wei felt a strange mix of shock and sympathy. He
glanced at Tang Wan again, suddenly feeling that this woman, who thought she
was making amends, had no idea she had already walked straight into someone
else’s carefully laid plan.
Suppressing his thoughts, Old Wei cleared his throat and put on a
serious expression. “I see. Then you’ll have to take good care of our Baitong.”
Tang Wan nodded immediately, her expression earnest. “Of course.
I’ll take full responsibility.”
Old Wei forced a smile, though internally he could only sigh.
Responsibility, she said so easily, completely unaware of what she had just
agreed to. If things continued this way, there would be no escaping once Shang
Baitong decided to close the net.
At that moment, Tang Wan’s phone rang. The caller ID displayed Wu
Liang. Her expression cooled instantly, and without avoiding the two men
present, she answered the call directly.
Wu Liang’s voice came through, carrying obvious surprise and
suspicion. The production team of “Fairy Demon” had contacted him and offered
Tang Wan the role of the third female lead, something several artists in the
company had failed to secure despite repeated attempts.
His implication was clear. He suspected that the Tang family had once again used their influence to secure the role for her behind the scenes.
