Chapter 726: The Dark Sentinel 37

Hearing the questioning from the White Tower’s senior officials, Lu Tong’s expression remained cold and unmoved as he replied, “You should wait until Ellivis wakes up and ask him yourself. As for me, I will be filing a formal complaint with the military court. He attempted to murder Admiral Tang and is suspected of colluding with the enemy and committing treason.”

The moment those words fell, the expressions of the White Tower’s leadership changed drastically.

“Murder Admiral Tang? Colluding with the enemy? That… how is that possible?” one of them blurted out, clearly shaken.

Seeing their disbelief, Tang Wan stepped forward, her face pale and her expression deliberately grim as she spoke in a steady voice, “There is something you may not know. While I was stabilizing Zheng Wenjun’s spiritual domain, I discovered that he had used a forbidden technique from the enemy nation, a method developed years ago to forcibly enhance a guide’s mental power. That is what led to his loss of control.”

She paused briefly, then continued without hesitation, “As for Ellivis, once he realized I had uncovered the truth, he attempted to silence me to prevent the matter from being exposed. In the process, he ended up killing his own guide.”

Her tone remained calm, but every word carried weight. “Given this, we have every reason to suspect that both Ellivis and Zheng Wenjun had undisclosed dealings with the enemy. Otherwise, how could such restricted technology have fallen into their hands?”

Her explanation was precise and unwavering, leaving little room for doubt.

The senior officials’ expressions grew increasingly grim as they listened.

“We understand,” one of them finally said, his voice heavy. “Fortunately, the two of you acted in time. Otherwise, the White Tower might not have survived tonight.”

Although a guide’s collapse was not as destructively powerful as that of a sentinel of equal level, the guide’s spiritual threads could penetrate multiple mental barriers at once. If left unchecked, the damage would have been catastrophic. Without Tang Wan and Lu Tong present, the consequences for the guides within the White Tower would have been unimaginable.

After that, Tang Wan and Lu Tong left the room, turning their attention to the chaos outside. Together, they worked through the night, stabilizing the mental states of affected guides and suppressing the sentinels who had begun to lose control. Only when dawn approached did the White Tower finally return to order, the steady hum of white noise once again filling the air and calming every restless mind.

At that moment, Little Cutie’s voice sounded in Tang Wan’s mind.

“Congratulations, host. The additional mission has been completed successfully. Would you like to remain in this world?”

Tang Wan knew very well what staying meant. It likely meant that her time here was coming to an end.

Even so, she did not hesitate. Spending fifty points, she chose to remain.

Even if the end was near, she would rather face it beside him. Leaving him alone to endure it would be far worse.

A few days later, the results of the investigation into Ellivis and Zheng Wenjun were released.

Although they had not directly betrayed the empire, they had indeed established contact with the enemy nation and acquired the forbidden technology used to forcibly enhance a guide’s mental strength. Even more serious, evidence surfaced showing that Ellivis had leaked confidential information regarding Lu Tong and Tang Wan to the enemy.

When this information came to light, the empire’s leadership was furious.

Using illegal technology on oneself was already a grave offense, but exposing the secrets of the empire’s two greatest assets was entirely unforgivable. Tang Wan and Lu Tong were now regarded as the empire’s most important strategic pillars.

When Tang Wan heard the full report, a cold smile crossed her lips.

So this was the so-called “hero.”

Compared to him, even when her Tongtong had once been labeled a villain, he had never stooped to such shameless depths.
