Chapter 716: The Dark Sentinel 27

Lu Tong moved swiftly through the battlefield with Tang Wan at his side, his pace steady and controlled, as though the chaos around them had no effect on him at all. However, instead of heading toward the main battlefield where the fighting was fiercest, he led her along a more obscure route, weaving through the edges of the conflict until they gradually arrived at a deserted, half-collapsed building.

Only then did he stop.

Lowering his voice, Lu Tong said, “Wanwan, stay here and keep watch on the surroundings.”

Tang Wan immediately nodded. “Got it.”

Without hesitation, she released her mental power. Invisible strands spread outward in all directions, silently covering the area and capturing every subtle fluctuation, from shifting debris to distant footsteps. Nothing escaped her perception.

Meanwhile, Lu Tong set down the black box he had brought and opened it. His movements were efficient and practiced as he began assembling his weapon piece by piece. Before long, a sleek black sniper rifle rested firmly in place, its cold metallic surface reflecting a faint glint of light.

He activated his interface and quickly requested coordinates from General Li and the others. The enemy’s double S-level guides were located within range.

After confirming the positions, Lu Tong turned his head toward Tang Wan. His expression was calm, but there was unmistakable trust in his gaze. “Wanwan, I’ll leave my safety to you.”

In the past, even during missions, he had always needed to divide his focus, keeping part of his awareness on self-defense. It was one of the reasons he had never been able to unleash his full potential.

But now, things were different.

Tang Wan met his eyes and nodded firmly. “Leave it to me.”

Then, before he could react, she stepped closer, lightly brushing her lips against his. Her hand followed, lifting his right hand as she pressed a soft kiss against the back of it. “Tongtong, good luck.”

A faint warmth spread from the spot she touched.

Lu Tong’s fingers tightened slightly, but he said nothing more. He simply gave a short nod before turning back to his weapon.

The rifle was positioned carefully against a stable surface. His body lowered, movements precise and fluid, as he entered a state of complete focus. His senses extended outward, far beyond what ordinary sentinels could achieve.

As a dark sentinel, his perception was on an entirely different level.

The battlefield unfolded in his awareness like a map, every movement magnified, every presence sharpened.

Normally, such deep extension of perception would leave him vulnerable, forcing him to remain cautious of his surroundings. But now, with Tang Wan guarding him, that burden no longer existed.

For the first time, he could devote himself entirely to the hunt.

His gaze flickered briefly toward Tang Wan, who stood nearby, her expression serious as she monitored everything around them. A faint smile touched his lips.

Then, his focus snapped forward again.

Target locked.

His finger pressed the trigger.

A sharp, almost silent shot tore through the air.

Without pausing, he shifted the muzzle slightly and fired again.

Miles away, the two enemy double S-level guides only sensed the incoming danger when the bullets were already dangerously close. Instinctively, they erected mental barriers to block the attack.

But it was useless.

The bullets Lu Tong used were specially designed to penetrate mental defenses.

In the next instant, both projectiles pierced through their foreheads with barely a moment’s delay between them.

Two bodies fell almost simultaneously.

The sentinels assigned to protect them froze in shock, their minds blank for a fraction of a second.

That moment was enough.

Two more shots rang out.

The guards collapsed before they could even react.

Panic erupted across the enemy ranks.

“Sniper! Protect the guides!”

Immediately, a large number of powerful sentinels rushed to gather the remaining double S-level guides, forming a tight defensive perimeter, their vigilance raised to the highest level.

Watching this through his scope, Lu Tong’s lips curved slightly.

A cluster of targets.

Perfect.

Without hesitation, he reached into his space storage and pulled out a heavier weapon, one that resembled a compact rocket launcher. He positioned it against his shoulder, adjusting the angle with calm precision.

The next second, a dark projectile shot forward.

A thunderous explosion followed, tearing through the gathered formation with devastating force.

And amidst the roar of destruction, Lu Tong let out a low, sharp whistle, his expression as cold and controlled as ever.
