Chapter 715: The Dark Sentinel 26
The higher-ups of the White Tower were naturally overjoyed.
At this critical moment, when the empire was in desperate need of double S-level guides, Zheng Wenjun’s breakthrough meant that their forces had gained a significant advantage against the enemy. Coupled with the fact that Ellivis himself was an S-rank sentinel prodigy, the pairing of the two could already be considered exceptionally strong. While they might not match the overwhelming compatibility of Tang Wan and Lu Tong, they were still regarded as an ideal combination.
Soon, Zheng Wenjun was rewarded accordingly and formally assigned to the front lines alongside Ellivis.
Ellivis was eager.
Only by earning merit on the battlefield could he advance faster, gaining both authority and status. Zheng Wenjun felt the same. As a man, he naturally longed to make contributions of his own. He had long hoped to fight for the empire together with his partner, and now that he had reached double S-level, not only had their combat effectiveness increased dramatically, but he could also assist far more sentinels.
This was his opportunity to establish himself within the army.
When Tang Wan woke up, a familiar and comforting scent of food drifted into her senses.
Her eyes opened immediately.
The first thing she saw was Lu Tong sitting by the bed.
“Tongtong…”
“You’re awake? Come eat something,” Lu Tong said, already stepping forward to help her sit up.
“Mm.”
What he had prepared was the meat of an interstellar insect beast, rich in protein and cooked to perfection. The texture was tender and refreshing, and Tang Wan ate with obvious satisfaction.
After finishing, she looked at him. “There’s no major issue on the front line, right?”
“For now, no,” Lu Tong replied calmly. “The enemy hasn’t shown signs of continuing their attack.”
“That’s good.” Tang Wan let out a quiet breath of relief.
But at that moment, Lu Tong’s gaze deepened slightly as he looked at her. “You’re full?”
“Mm,” she nodded, her expression relaxed and content.
Seeing this, something shifted in his eyes.
Then, without warning, he stepped forward and pulled her into his arms.
Tang Wan instantly understood his intention. The atmosphere between them changed, and even her own body reacted instinctively, a subtle warmth rising as her guide aura unconsciously strengthened.
Lu Tong noticed it immediately.
The faint, sweet presence surrounding her became more pronounced, and the corner of his lips lifted slightly.
It seemed… his guide was not resisting at all.
After that night, the exhaustion Tang Wan had accumulated from her earlier treatment completely dissipated. By morning, her condition had noticeably improved, and her mind felt clearer and more energized.
Just then, Lu Tong’s communicator emitted a sharp alert.
It was the signal used only for emergencies.
He immediately connected the call.
“General Lu, it’s bad! The enemy has launched another attack. According to our intel, they’ve deployed at least twenty double S-level guides this time!”
Lu Tong’s expression darkened.
“I understand. Wanwan and I will head over immediately.”
Ending the call, he turned to Tang Wan, his tone steady but serious.
“Wanwan, once we’re on the battlefield, don’t panic. I’ll handle everything. Just stay calm, understand?”
This was the first time he was bringing a guide with him into active combat.
Alone, he could remain perfectly composed, capable of hiding undetected for days. But with a guide beside him, things were different. If she lost her composure, even for a moment, it could expose both of them to danger.
Tang Wan met his gaze without hesitation.
“Don’t worry, Tongtong. I won’t hold you back.”
Lu Tong studied her for a brief moment, then nodded.
“Good. Let’s go.”
With that, he grabbed the black equipment case in one hand and took her hand with the other, leading her swiftly toward the front lines.
