Chapter 708: The Dark Sentinel 19

Hearing Tang Wan’s soft voice, Lu Tong’s arms unconsciously tightened around her, his gaze fixed on her with a depth that was difficult to decipher. “You smell… very good.”

It was the scent that belonged to a guide, one that was subtly, steadily growing stronger.

A guide’s pheromones had a natural soothing effect on sentinels, especially those on the edge of emotional instability. To them, it was not just comforting, but almost essential. Once a bond was formed, a sentinel could recognize their guide through that scent alone. Even across long distances, a single trace was enough to lead them back.

But for that to happen, there had to be a deeper imprint, one that required more than just a mental connection.

At this moment, however, Lu Tong’s attention was drawn to something else entirely.

The scent was intensifying.

Normally, such a change only occurred when a guide’s emotions or physical state fluctuated. It was subtle to ordinary people, but to a sentinel like him, whose senses were sharpened to the extreme, it was impossible to ignore.

The faint sweetness lingered in the air, soft yet persistent, wrapping around him little by little.

Tang Wan, however, had no awareness of what was happening.

Hearing his words, she blinked, then showed a look of sudden realization. “You mean my guide pheromones?” she asked, curiosity flickering in her eyes. “Now that you mention it, I don’t even know what I smell like.”

As she spoke, she lifted her arm and leaned closer, trying to catch her own scent.

There was nothing.

At least, nothing she could perceive.

Watching her actions, Lu Tong’s voice dropped slightly. “It’s sweet,” he said slowly. “And light… but very pleasant.”

The way he said it, the way his eyes remained on her, made something shift subtly in the air.

Tang Wan felt it.

A faint heat crept up her neck, her cheeks coloring slightly as she looked away for a moment. For reasons she couldn’t quite explain, the atmosphere felt… different.

“Really?” she asked, her tone softening as she adjusted slightly in his arms. “Do you like it, Tongtong?”

“I like it,” Lu Tong replied without hesitation.

His voice was low, steady, carrying an unmistakable certainty.

Tang Wan felt her heartbeat pick up just a little.

There was nothing inappropriate in his words, and yet the way he said them, combined with his gaze and the closeness between them, created a strange tension she couldn’t quite put into words.

A quiet, unfamiliar awareness settled over her.

And without realizing it, the faintest shiver ran down her spine.
