Chapter 703: The Dark Sentinel 14

Hearing Lu Tong’s matter-of-fact tone, Tang Wan’s smile only grew brighter. “Really? Then being your guide must be the happiest thing in the world, Tongtong.”

Lu Tong responded with a simple, “Really?” but inwardly, a quiet satisfaction spread through him. So she liked being with him this much. That thought alone made his mood inexplicably better.

As the two stepped out of the registration hall, they happened to run into another pair approaching from the opposite direction.

It was Ellivis and Zheng Wenjun.

At that moment, Zheng Wenjun was being held tightly in Ellivis’s arms, his expression strained, almost humiliated, while Ellivis’s face carried a clear sense of possessive dominance. When Ellivis noticed Tang Wan and Lu Tong, he merely cast them a brief, indifferent glance before continuing forward without pause, still holding Zheng Wenjun as they entered the hall.

Tang Wan watched them leave, then turned her head slightly toward Lu Tong. “Tongtong, those two are also a one hundred percent match,” she said thoughtfully. “Before, I didn’t really believe what the books said about perfect compatibility. But when I met you, I just knew you were the one I was looking for. That feeling of finding someone among thousands of people… it’s really incredible.”

Lu Tong’s lips curved faintly at her words, though he only gave a low hum in response.

Tang Wan immediately followed up, her eyes shining with curiosity. “What about you? How did you feel at that time?”

Lu Tong glanced at her briefly, then answered in a calm, almost casual tone, “Same as you.”

Tang Wan blinked.

That was it?

Could he be any more perfunctory?

But even though she complained inwardly, she would never show it on her face. Instead, she quickly brightened again, her expression full of delight. “I knew it! You felt it too, right? Every time you got closer to me, my heart started beating faster.”

“Oh,” Lu Tong replied simply.

Tang Wan fell silent for a moment.

That was the reaction?

Just “oh”?

She suppressed the urge to roll her eyes and instead followed him back to his room.

Earlier, she had been too exhausted to pay attention to her surroundings, but now that she looked properly, she realized just how unusual his living space was. The room itself was spacious and well-located, but the lighting was dim to the point of gloominess, making it feel almost like an underground chamber rather than a place meant for living.

She could not help but look at him. “Tongtong, why is your room so dark?”

Lu Tong answered casually, “It’s convenient. When I go on missions, I don’t need to readjust to the battlefield environment.”

Tang Wan paused, then a trace of distress appeared in her eyes. “But from now on, I’ll be with you. You don’t have to face everything alone anymore.”

Lu Tong gave a slight nod, as if accepting her words without much thought. Then he added, “If you don’t like it, you can change it however you want.”

Tang Wan immediately smiled. “Okay.”

That smile seemed to brighten the entire room in an instant.

Lu Tong found himself watching her for a moment longer than usual. For the first time, the dimness he had long been accustomed to no longer felt natural. Instead, her presence made the space feel… different.

At the same time, a subtle, unfamiliar impulse stirred within him.

He knew exactly what it was.

It had nothing to do with emotion.

It was instinct.

After a sentinel and guide with perfect compatibility completed their mental bond, a physical response would inevitably follow. Without further connection, both sides would begin to experience strain, and for guides, the consequences were even more severe.

Compared to sentinels, a guide’s body was far more delicate. If their connection was not stabilized through deeper bonding, it could quickly lead to imbalance.

Understanding this, a faint anticipation rose within Lu Tong despite himself.

Whether he admitted it or not, there was already a growing possessiveness toward Tang Wan within him.

Not born from affection.

But no less real.
