Chapter 433: Seventies: The Mature Husband 33

When that soft body suddenly crashed into his arms, Xue Xingtong froze completely, at a loss for what to do.

But soon, his tightly clenched fists loosened, and he carefully wrapped his arms around Tang Wan.

“I’m sorry… this is all my fault,” he said hoarsely, full of self-blame.

Tang Wan sniffed lightly. “Then… why did you come after me?”

Xue Xingtong fell silent.

Seeing that, Tang Wan immediately pulled away from his embrace, annoyed.

Ah! Men!

He doesn’t even have the guts to say it!

Under the bright moonlight, standing so close, Xue Xingtong could clearly see the disappointment and anger in her eyes.

He opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Tang Wan stomped her foot. “If you have nothing to say, then forget it!”

She turned and walked away.

Xue Xingtong stood there, mind blank.

But one thought kept echoing—

Don’t let her go.

Before she had taken more than a few steps, he suddenly rushed forward, grabbed her arm, and in one swift motion lifted her onto his shoulder.

Tang Wan was stunned.

“Xue Xingtong! What are you doing?!”

“To you,” he said through gritted teeth, his voice trembling with something raw and uncontrollable.

There was a dangerous intensity in his eyes—desperation mixed with restraint finally snapping.

He carried her straight into the deeper part of the field.

He knew what he was doing was reckless.

He knew he might regret it.

But he couldn’t stop himself.

Even if it meant she would hate him—

Even if it was only once—

He wanted to hold on to her.

At the edge of the field, he finally set her down.

Before she could react, he pulled her into a tight embrace and kissed her.

It was urgent, overwhelming—

as if all the suppressed emotions he had buried for so long were breaking free at once.

Tang Wan’s breath was stolen, her thoughts going blank.

Yet beneath that intensity—

she felt something else.

A deep, aching sadness.

Her heart tightened.

Slowly, she raised her arms and held him back, responding instead of resisting.

Xue Xingtong froze.

Clarity rushed back in an instant.

He immediately let go of her, his expression turning harsh. Without hesitation, he slapped himself.

“I’m sorry! I’ve lost my mind… I almost hurt you… I’m no better than a beast!”

Tang Wan was startled.

She quickly reached out, holding his face.

“What are you doing?!”

“I never thought you were hurting me,” she said firmly, her voice steady.

“I chose this. Do you understand? I chose it.”

Xue Xingtong stared at her, stunned.

“Why?” he asked, voice low.

He truly didn’t understand—

What was there about him worth loving?

Tang Wan looked straight into his eyes.

“Does love need a reason?”

Her tone was calm, but resolute.

For a moment, everything inside him collapsed.

His eyes reddened.

The next second, he pulled her back into his arms and kissed her again—

this time with less chaos, but no less intensity.

As if finally accepting something he had denied for too long.

His hands trembled slightly, his breath uneven.

After a while, he paused, looking at her seriously.

“…You won’t regret this?” he asked quietly.

Tang Wan didn’t answer with words.

She wrapped her arms around his neck—

and kissed him first.
