Chapter 1532: Her Highness the Princess (82)
A shortsighted man attempting to sow discord did not change Tang Xi's fondness for handsome men.
In the past, the more handsome a man was, the more interested she became.
Now, however, her preferences had changed. She liked men who were good-looking, not overly clever, but who knew their place and possessed enough tact and awareness. Only such men would remain by her side.
As a result, the number of her male favorites had been reduced by more than half. Those who remained were all obedient and well-behaved, and her days became much more comfortable.
As for her relationship with the Third Prince, it had been severed many years ago.
The Third Prince seemed to despise her, believing that her promiscuous nature meant she could never accomplish anything great.
After Lรผ Qing's execution, the Third Prince had even intended to introduce a man to her, someone he hoped to recruit to his side.
Tang Xi rejected him on the spot.
She wanted nothing more than to continue enjoying her peaceful and prosperous life and had no intention of being dragged into dangerous schemes.
Now that princesses no longer needed to be sent away in political marriages, life was wonderful.
How could she willingly allow herself to be used simply because of her blood ties to the Third Prince?
Her father, the Crown Prince, and her Imperial Elder Sister were all far from fools.
Out of goodwill, she had even advised the Third Prince to keep his head down and stop causing trouble.
The Third Prince immediately snapped, “Women's foolishness. I never thought you would become such a pleasure-seeking person, Tang Xi. You'll regret this.”
Tang Xi had no idea whether she would regret it in the future.
But right now, her life was going very well.
During Tang Guo's travels through the various kingdoms, things were far from peaceful.
Not because they encountered any particular danger along the way.
Rather, because Yun Huayin, that clingy pest, would suddenly appear before them from time to time.
Every time Yun Huayin appeared, she would accuse Tang Guo with a face full of grievances.
Or she would point at Tang Guo and scold her about something.
Whenever Tang Guo grew annoyed, she simply had people throw Yun Huayin out.
Then Yun Huayin would explode and immediately run off to find Yun Buxiu.
The moment she saw him, she would try to throw herself into his arms and cry pitifully.
Unexpectedly, the moment Yun Buxiu sensed danger, he would leap high into the air, turn around, and land behind Tang Guo.
Then, in a low voice, he would say, “Your Highness, I count as one of your people now. At times like this, you must protect me.”
Seeing how close Yun Buxiu and Tang Guo were, Yun Huayin stomped her feet in anger.
“Brother Buxiu, she just had me thrown out. Aren't you going to stand up for me?”
Yun Buxiu replied, “Foster Sister, if you stop appearing before Her Highness, then Her Highness naturally won't order anyone to throw you out. It's a very simple problem to solve. I am merely a humble Imperial Preceptor, while Her Highness is the Grand Princess of Northern Xia and of noble status. When Her Highness gives an order, I must obey.”
His explanation only made Yun Huayin angrier.
“Brother Buxiu, why do you do this? You've accompanied her for so many years, yet she still won't be with you. That only proves she doesn't love you. Why are you so devoted to her?”
“Foster Sister, Her Highness may be able to live without me, but I cannot live without Her Highness. Remaining by her side is entirely my own choice. And Her Highness is not nearly as bad as you claim. The kindness she shows me is something only I can truly understand. You will never comprehend it.”
Yun Buxiu continued, “Foster Sister, my feelings for you are only those of a brother and sister. Back then, I only promised Foster Father that I would cure your illness. Now that you have fully recovered, I consider my debt to Foster Father repaid. To borrow your own words, I do not love you either. Then why do you insist on following me? There will never be any result from this.”
