Chapter 1511: Her Highness the Princess (61)

Lü Qing heard that the newly appointed female official of Beixia Kingdom had been invited to attend the poetry gathering organized by the talented men and women of the imperial capital.

Perhaps because of that familiar name, he also wanted to see what kind of extraordinary person this female official was, to have earned such favor from the Emperor.

He rose to his feet, and Juanzhu hurried over to support him. Lü Qing pushed her away and said coldly, “No need to help me. My leg is only lame, not broken off. I can walk by myself.”

Hearing that, Juanzhu dared not approach again.

Ever since the Second Prince Consort had accidentally broken his leg, his temper had become increasingly strange.

He would lose his temper at the slightest provocation, and the maids in the residence had all grown somewhat afraid of him.

Lü Qing limped out. He wanted to walk normally, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't.

He had once been a handsome and dashing man. But because of that riding accident which had broken his leg and damaged the bone, he had exhausted all the famous physicians in the capital. Tang Xi had even summoned imperial physicians from the palace for him.

They all said his leg could be treated, but their medical skills were insufficient to restore it to its original state. Thus, after the injury healed, he became a cripple.

So was his leg truly beyond saving?

If he hadn't later heard of a man who had also broken his leg, in an even worse condition than his own, and had eventually been cured by the Little Divine Doctor of the clinic in the northern district, returning to normal—able to walk, jump, and move about as if nothing had happened—he wouldn't have been so unwilling to accept his fate.

Deep in his heart, he still resented that Little Divine Doctor for refusing to treat his leg.

The name Lü Yuzhi wasn't widely known in the capital. Everyone had long become accustomed to calling her the Little Divine Doctor, and over time, no one bothered with her actual name.

Thus, whenever her reputation reached Lü Qing's ears, all he heard was “Little Divine Doctor.”

Had he heard the name Lü Yuzhi, perhaps some suspicions might have arisen.

Or perhaps not.

After all, his wife and children had never occupied a place in his heart. The only reason he remembered the name Lin Yuexiang was because she had left an especially deep impression on him.

On the day of the poetry gathering, Tang Guo had naturally received an invitation as well.

Normally, she seldom attended such events, but the organizers always invited Her Highness the Grand Princess without fail.

Whether she came or not was entirely her own choice.

Tang Guo felt that the name Lin Yuexiang alone was enough to attract Lü Qing.

Although in Lü Qing's mind, it was impossible for this woman—personally appointed by imperial decree and granted the right to stand alongside men as an official—to be his former wife.

Still, he would undoubtedly want to see for himself what this woman with the same name looked like and whether she was truly as remarkable as the rumors claimed.

Therefore, Lü Qing would certainly attend.

How could she possibly miss such an interesting scene?

“Go invite the National Teacher. We'll attend the poetry gathering together shortly.”

Upon receiving the invitation, Yun Buxiu immediately washed up and changed into a fresh set of clothes. Instead of leaving through the front gate and entering through the Princess Manor's main entrance, he simply climbed over the wall separating their residences.

Tang Guo happened to be coming out of her room just as Yun Buxiu jumped down from the wall.

Teasingly, she remarked, “The National Teacher seems to be in good spirits.”

Yun Buxiu felt somewhat embarrassed.

He had simply been too happy, so delighted that he'd lost his sense of direction and gotten carried away.

“Since the National Teacher is here, let's go.”

Yun Buxiu could sense that Her Highness the Princess  was especially cheerful today, as though something wonderful was about to happen.
