Chapter 1493: Her Highness the Princess (39)
“Your Highness, there doesn't seem to be anything particularly beautiful about this place. Why are we staying here for so long?”
Yun Buxiu was thoroughly puzzled. Especially since Tang Guo had just instructed some people to head off in another direction, and an hour had already passed without them returning.
He was genuinely curious about what she was trying to do.
“If the National Preceptor is impatient, you're free to leave.”
“No, I'm not impatient.” Yun Buxiu hurriedly explained. “I'm only curious. If Your Highness wishes, I can wait here until the end of time.”
A smile curved Tang Guo's lips. “National Preceptor, will it rain this afternoon?”
“Allow me to calculate first.”
When it came to predicting the weather, Yun Buxiu truly was remarkable.
His predictions were almost always accurate. Even if conditions changed midway, as long as he had another chance, he could calculate the new weather after the changes.
Among the nations, there were few rulers who didn't know of Yun Buxiu. Every one of them hoped that he would become their National Preceptor.
Who would have guessed that the lofty sage they admired had willingly reduced himself to a weather forecast?
“Your Highness, near dusk, there will be a torrential downpour that will last throughout the night.”
After speaking, he glanced at the people who were constructing a shelter nearby and looked at Tang Guo with great curiosity.
Could it be that she already knew there would be heavy rain by evening, which was why she had ordered them to build the shelter?
This was a wild area overgrown with tangled trees and weeds, hardly a place of scenic beauty.
Especially since directly ahead of them stood a sloping hillside.
By the middle of the afternoon, the shelter for avoiding the rain had already been completed.
Tang Guo's entire caravan moved inside, and the attendants began preparing food.
This time, Yun Buxiu kept quiet, afraid of irritating her and making her dislike him.
He had always felt that even his ability to predict the weather was something she could easily do without.
That day, he had already made his feelings clear, yet she seemed not to care very much.
No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't understand what she was thinking. But vaguely, he understood that because of their first meeting, he had already lost something most important.
In this lifetime, if nothing unexpected happened, perhaps the best outcome would be that he could remain by her side.
The worst outcome would be not even having the chance to stay by her side.
“National Preceptor, why are you staring at me? What are you thinking about?”
“I'm thinking about how I can make Your Highness stop being angry with me.”
Yun Buxiu looked utterly innocent. The attendants around them had long grown accustomed to it. During this journey, the National Preceptor had truly abandoned all sense of shame.
As she nibbled on some snacks, Tang Guo said, “I'm not angry with you.”
“Then Your Highness simply dislikes me.”
“If I disliked you, I wouldn't have brought the National Preceptor along.”
“Then…” Yun Buxiu stopped himself from asking because she had raised her head and was looking at him with a half-smile.
“National Preceptor, back then, what was your purpose in attracting my attention?”
Yun Buxiu answered honestly, “To gain Your Highness's trust. I wanted Your Highness to help me obtain a precious medicinal herb from the Empress.”
“So you intended to seduce me with your looks, deceive my feelings, obtain the herb, and then tell me that we weren't suitable for each other before leaving?”
Yun Buxiu fell silent.
At the beginning, that had indeed been his intention.
“Wasn't it?”
“Yes.”
Yun Buxiu secretly observed her expression. Seeing that she still wore a smile and didn't appear angry at all only made him even more uneasy.
