Chapter 1471: Her Highness the Princess (17)

Lu Qing suddenly thought of a serious issue—under no circumstances could the existence of his wife and children be exposed.

Thus, after some time had passed, he arranged for trusted men to keep watch on his original wife, Lin Yuexiang.

At this point, his children were only two or three years old. Lin Yuexiang should be unable to leave them behind and certainly wouldn't bring such young children all the way to the imperial capital to look for him.

Because of that, he felt relatively at ease.

Now that he had become a prince consort, he had no desire to spend his days idly.

Taking advantage of Tang Xi’s affection for him, he accomplished quite a few things.

Tang Guo saw it all.

Tang Zhi saw it all as well.

He discovered that his dear younger sister was truly extraordinary. The suggestions she offered often enlightened him.

Take Lu Qing, for example. On the surface, he seemed to be a decent man.

After becoming a prince consort, aside from dutifully staying by Tang Xi’s side, he barely paid any attention even to Juanzhu.

He appeared to be a perfectly upright man who was not lustful by nature.

But behind the scenes, Lu Qing was far from inactive. Through the influence of Princess Tang Xi, he had done many things beneficial to himself.

Though Tang Zhi considered those matters trivial, they allowed him to see Lu Qing’s true character more clearly.

What concerned him most was that through Tang Xi, Lu Qing had grown close to the Third Prince, Tang Zhao. Recently, the two had become increasingly intimate.

Originally, Tang Zhi had never cared about a mere Tang Zhao. But because of Lu Qing, he felt that even if this third younger brother appeared harmless, he still needed to be watched carefully.

Who knew what kind of person lurked beneath that harmless exterior? Better to remain vigilant.

Whenever Tang Zhi encountered problems, he liked to discuss them with Tang Guo.

Meanwhile, the system could only watch helplessly as its host raised yet another ox to till the vast fields of Northern Xia.

Tang Zhi grew increasingly mature, and the advice he offered became more and more flawless. Tang Guo was highly satisfied.

The Emperor was equally pleased. He believed that the Crown Prince he had personally raised truly was his finest successor, and so he valued him even more.

At this point, Tang Zhi instead became more low-key. His former sharpness and brilliance gradually receded, making him seem ordinary once again.

But who was the Emperor?

A man who sat at the highest position and saw farther than anyone else.

He was extremely satisfied with Tang Zhi’s conduct.

Not arrogant, not impatient—this was the Crown Prince of Northern Xia, someone worthy of bearing great responsibilities.

Tang Guo remained within the palace for several months without venturing out once, which left Yun Buxiu anxious beyond measure.

“The Eldest Princess still has no intention of leaving the palace?”

“No, Young Master.”

The attendant felt utterly helpless.

His young master asked that same question ten times a day.

The Eldest Princess was living comfortably inside the palace. Why would she casually go out?

If another incident like Prince Consort Lu happened, it would only become a joke.

Unconsciously, Yun Buxiu recalled the scene from several months ago when Tang Guo had swiftly pulled her personal maid aside and kicked Juanzhu into the lake.

Originally, he had intended to intervene and help, but he had never expected her reaction to be so fast.

What he still couldn't understand was why she had kicked her own maid into the lake.

But he believed she must have had her reasons.

He had thought there would be many opportunities to meet in the future, and that he would slowly prove himself.

Who would have thought that she simply stopped leaving the palace?

He had even considered sneaking directly into the imperial palace.

But after some thought, he gave up.

His first impression had already been terrible. If he did something like that, she would probably never wish to see him again.

“Young Master, are we still going to obtain the precious medicinal herb in the hands of the Empress of Northern Xia? Although Miss’s illness can be eased with other medicines, it would still be best to cure her completely as soon as possible.”
