Chapter 1465: Her Highness the Princess (11)

“Did you think that because I was captivated by your looks or your music, I would flutter into your embrace like a butterfly drawn to flowers?”

Yun Buxiu fell silent.

“My apologies.”

He had no way to refute her. He had indeed approached her with a purpose.

Yet the instant she turned away so coldly, he found himself overwhelmed by an inexplicable sense of regret.

The regret he felt over his earlier decision was difficult even for him to describe.

That was why he had called out to stop her.

Just as she had said, they were strangers. There had been nothing rude about her simply turning and leaving.

“My name is Yun Buxiu.” He looked at Tang Guo and saw that faint smile playing on her lips. Her gaze held nothing but unfamiliarity. For some reason, this only made him feel even more strongly that his decision had been terribly wrong.

But since he was already here, he had to obtain something.

Tang Guo was the Eldest Princess of Northern Xia, the Emperor’s most favored daughter and the Empress’s child.

That precious item belonged to the Empress.

Only by getting close to Tang Guo would he have a chance to ask for it.

His original plan had been simple—sacrifice his appearance, win her affection, and he should be able to obtain it.

But after meeting her, he suddenly felt ashamed of himself.

The thought emerged so abruptly that even he found it baffling.

Some vague instinct deep within him kept warning him that he absolutely could not hurt her.

Host, could it be that the curse that fellow placed on himself has failed?

“Probably not. Didn’t you see how remorseful he looked? I think it’s because of the identity he chose this time. The original host never came here, so they would never have met, and none of this would have happened. As for why he wants to approach me, I’m not interested. Unless he’s simply interested in me.”

The system thought silently, How cruel.

“From the looks of it, he has ulterior motives, so forget it.”

Host, are you really giving up on him just like that?

“Let nature take its course. If being together feels comfortable, then perhaps we can have a relationship. If it feels uncomfortable, it’s better not to begin at all.”

As for love, she no longer insisted on having it.

If it existed, that was good.

If it didn’t, she could still go on.

No one was indispensable. At worst, she would simply be a little lonely.

Yun Buxiu could only watch helplessly as Tang Guo departed. Even after her figure had disappeared from sight, he still felt a sense of loss.

“Young Master, it seems the Eldest Princess of Northern Xia has no interest in you.”

“It’s not that she has no interest in me. She saw through my ulterior motives and didn’t even give me the chance to toy with her.” Yun Buxiu sighed. The more he thought about it, the more he wondered why he had listened to those terrible suggestions. They had actually advised him to attract her attention this way and even claimed that no woman could resist his music.

Yet here was one woman who had seen through him with a single glance—clever as snow and exceptionally cold.

And that coldness seemed directed solely at him!

Hearing the faint grievance hidden in Yun Buxiu’s voice, his attendant was greatly shocked.

His young master… was actually feeling wronged?

Then again, someone like his master had been treated coldly by a woman and even rebuked. Feeling aggrieved was understandable.

“Young Master, if the Eldest Princess has no interest in you, then won’t we be unable to obtain that item? Miss’s illness can’t wait.”

Yun Buxiu frowned. “Continue using the previous medicines to suppress it for now.”

As for that Eldest Princess, who had seen through his ulterior motives at a glance, he no longer wished to approach her that way, deceive her into trusting him, and then ask the Empress for that precious medicinal ingredient.

He could not hurt her.
