Chapter 1364: The Mermaid Princess (63)
In his dream, he saw himself being thrown against the rocks by the waves. A Guoguo did not appear as she had in his previous life.
Weak and unconscious, he lay on the rocks, exposed to the sea breeze throughout the night. By the next day, he was burning with a fever, and under the blazing sun, he baked there for half the day.
Then, a blue mermaid curiously surfaced beside the rocks. After confirming something, she turned and dove back into the sea. Not long afterward, she returned and fed him medicinal juice.
After that, the blue mermaid brought him to the shore nearest to the human world and remained by his side until he woke up.
Qiao Chen remembered it clearly. That had been the moment he was reborn.
When he saw that it was Fuya, he instinctively assumed that she had fallen for him and had deceived him into believing she had saved him while hiding A Guoguo’s existence.
Thus, he turned around and left with a gloomy face, completely ignoring Fuya, who called after him, told him her name, and even asked for his.
Afterward came those days he spent with Fuya. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to loving him.
Meanwhile, all he thought about was how to be with A Guoguo.
The final scene in his dream was his own hand cutting flesh from Fuya with a knife. He had eaten her flesh and drunk her blood.
At that moment, Qiao Chen abruptly woke up.
Blankly staring toward the horizon, he saw that dawn was approaching.
Touching his wet face, he burst into loud sobs.
“Fuya… Fuya… I’m sorry…”
His cries were filled with endless sorrow and despair. Anyone who heard them would feel heartbroken.
Qiao Chen collapsed to the ground and vomited painfully, forcing his hand into his mouth as though he wanted to dig out every piece of flesh he had swallowed.
He pushed his fingers deep into his throat and clawed desperately.
How could he have eaten Fuya’s flesh and drunk her blood?
How could he have done such a thing?
That couldn’t have been him.
It had to be a devil.
He must have been possessed by a devil.
After retching for a long time, Qiao Chen was left utterly exhausted.
He searched the desert for whatever could fill his stomach and began retracing the route he had traveled over the past year, heading back toward where he had come from.
He had to find Fuya.
He would definitely find her.
Fuya was a mermaid.
How could she die?
She would surely still be alive.
“Qiao Chen is dead.”
Tang Guo arrived at Pei Jiang’s house. She glanced at Fuya, who was soaking in an enormous tank of water nearby. Her blue tail had lost all its luster, and she now looked like an entirely ordinary mermaid.
Yet the way Pei Jiang looked at her was full of love.
As he gently combed Fuya’s hair, he raised his head and asked, “Oh? He’s dead?”
“Mm.” Tang Guo noticed that Fuya seemed indifferent. “I happened to be passing by, so I came to let you know. I’m leaving.”
Pei Jiang paused. “You won’t be coming back?”
“No.” Tang Guo smiled faintly. “I don’t have much time left. I want to spend whatever remains peacefully with Yao-ge.”
Pei Jiang stared in shock. “Not much time left? What do you mean?” Hadn’t the golden-tailed merfolk possessed supreme divine power? As long as that power remained, they could live for an extremely long time.
“It’s fate.” Tang Guo pursed her lips and smiled. “Alright, I’m leaving.” Her eyes shifted toward Fuya. “You’ve taken very good care of her.”
“I’m willing to do it,” Pei Jiang said with a blissful smile. He had said it before—whether Fuya loved him or would ever respond to him, as long as she still needed him, he was willing to care for her.
He regretted not fighting for her sooner.
If only he had treated Fuya well earlier and let her experience what true love was, perhaps she would never have been hurt by Qiao Chen.
