Chapter 1359: The Mermaid Princess (58)
“Qiao Chen, I’ll definitely get you out of here. Believe me.”
Qiao Chen nodded lightly and allowed Fuya to support him, with most of his weight resting on her body.
Looking at Fuya’s stubborn refusal to give up, Qiao Chen felt no emotion whatsoever.
Fuya was only doing all this because she wanted his love and sincerity.
No.
He would never give his affection to this lying mermaid.
Even though A’Guoguo had treated him so cruelly, at least she had been honest. When she said she hated him, despised him, and wanted him dead, every word was true.
As for Fuya, he genuinely couldn't tell which of her words were true and which were false.
But right now, all he wanted was to survive and leave this place.
As for A’Guoguo, he still wanted to have her. Since she already knew about the previous life, then he would simply have to find some other way to obtain her.
One day later, Fuya was already exhausted. Her entire face had been scorched red by the sun.
If not for the divine power Yin Yao had bestowed upon her, her tail would have already reverted to its original form.
“Qiao Chen, let's rest for a while.”
Qiao Chen felt irritated, but he still stopped.
After resting for a bit, they continued onward. Whenever they encountered edible plants, Fuya would gather them all and give them to Qiao Chen. She had promised that she would definitely lead him out.
Yet whenever Qiao Chen found something edible, he never considered Fuya. He ate everything himself.
Fuya’s complexion grew increasingly worse, while Qiao Chen still looked relatively fine.
But Fuya refused to give up.
She believed that one day, Qiao Chen would understand just how deeply she loved him.
One day, he would realize how good she was to him.
For his sake, she was willing to throw away even her own life.
Qiao Chen seemed blind to all of it.
Anything they encountered that could help him survive, he used for himself without ever thinking of sharing it with Fuya.
Relying on sheer willpower and the meager food they found, the two spent five days trekking through the desert.
During that time, they encountered numerous dangers, and Fuya repeatedly risked her life to protect Qiao Chen.
Looking at her body, now covered in wounds, Qiao Chen said coldly and mercilessly, “Fuya, even if you sacrifice all this for me, I won't be moved, because I don't love you. Even if A’Guoguo treats me cruelly, I still love her. She's the mermaid who saved me and brought me ashore. You've been deceiving me all along.”
“Qiao Chen…” Tears poured endlessly from Fuya's eyes. “I…”
“There's no need to say anything more. I just want to get out of here.” Qiao Chen said, “If you can't keep going, I won't wait for you. I don't want dead weight dragging me down.”
Fuya's eyes reddened painfully.
She couldn't bring herself to say that, in this life, she had been the one who saved him.
Her heart simply hurt.
Why?
Why, after making so much effort, could she not even earn one glance backward from Qiao Chen?
Even if he couldn't love her, couldn't he at least stop being so cold and heartless toward her?
Ten days later, Fuya could no longer walk.
She was a mermaid, and the divine power that Yin Yao had bestowed upon her had finally dissipated.
Her tail emerged, leaving her completely unable to move across the desert.
Qiao Chen's expression darkened. Pulling his arm free from Fuya's grasp, he said, “Fuya, I'm sorry. I'm giving up on you.”
“Qiao Chen,” Fuya called out, “don't you really like me at all? Not even a little?”
“No.”
Tears covered Fuya's face.
“Do you truly love A’Guoguo? Or is it only because she saved you? What if I had been the one who saved you?”
“But you didn't save me.”
Qiao Chen pushed Fuya aside and slowly continued forward.
Fuya had become a burden.
If he brought her along, neither of them would make it out.
There was no reason for him to sacrifice his life for someone he didn't love.
