Chapter 1344: The Mermaid Princess (43)
“The kind of life-and-death grudge where either he lives or I do.”
Tang Guo smiled faintly, hugging Yin Yao’s arm as she asked with a smile, “Brother Yao, do you believe in rebirth?”
Yin Yao stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. Even in the darkness, he could clearly see her face and the emotions in her eyes.
“You were reborn?”
“No,” Tang Guo denied.
“Then was he reborn?” Yin Yao asked. He had indeed sensed that Qiao Chen’s soul was much denser than that of ordinary humans.
But he had never had the habit of peering into other people's souls. He had simply assumed Qiao Chen was one of the rare humans born with an unusually powerful soul.
As for the little mermaid before him, aside from her personality and habits being somewhat different, he could find no traces of anything unusual.
It was as though she was herself, yet somehow not herself.
But no matter what the truth was, he knew one thing for certain. The little mermaid he wanted to raise was the one before him, and he intended to raise her for a lifetime.
“Qiao Chen was reborn,” Tang Guo said. To her, such matters were hardly important.
Besides, what her origins were and why she had come here were not things that would bring down heavenly lightning if spoken aloud.
Whether she spoke of them or not depended solely on whether she wanted to.
If she wished to speak, she would tell this fellow who traveled through worlds without memories. If she did not wish to, then even if he asked, she would not answer.
“Brother Yao, with your intelligence, you've probably guessed that I'm not her, haven't you?” Tang Guo asked with a smile, looking directly into Yin Yao’s eyes as she rested her palm against his cheek. “I’m only telling you this because Brother Yao is too adorable.”
Yin Yao could neither laugh nor cry. What kind of reason was that?
This fish had become more and more willful, but he adored her for it.
“Mhm,” Yin Yao replied. “A'Guoguo isn’t some innocent little mermaid. You’re clever, sly, and quite the liar. You have baskets upon baskets of flattering words. The very first time we met, you used an illusion spell on me. How could the merfolk possess such abilities?”
“Brother Yao, don’t you think your character setting has collapsed?” Tang Guo teased.
Yin Yao: “...”
“When I first met Brother Yao, what a cold and heartless young man you were.”
Yin Yao: “...”
This fish had been spoiled rotten by him, so he might as well endure it.
“Look at you now. My Brother Yao knows how to compliment people, his mouth has become sweet, he buys me ice cream, remodeled my swimming pool for me, and even moved all those sparkling treasures you love so much into my house.”
Tang Guo pursed her lips into a smile. “Brother Yao, aren’t you afraid the sea folk will laugh at you?”
“Who would dare laugh? I’d sweep them out of the sea with a single flick of my tail.”
“Brother Yao, let me tell you a story about a mermaid saving someone.”
“Alright.”
Yin Yao held Tang Guo’s hand while she leaned against him, and the two strolled leisurely along the street together.
She recounted A'Guoguo’s experiences from beginning to end, causing Yin Yao to frown as he listened.
“So, Qiao Chen knew that A'Guoguo was the one who originally saved him, and after being reborn, he came looking for you?”
“That’s right.” A trace of mockery crossed Tang Guo’s lips. “This time, I didn’t save him. I intended to let him die in the sea and consider it revenge. Who would have thought that by a twist of fate, Fuya would rescue him and bring him ashore, only to end up falling in love with him again.”
“The ridiculous thing is, he doesn’t believe Fuya was the one who saved him.”
“He’s an extreme person. What he likes, he likes to the utmost and can place upon a pedestal. But what he dislikes, he treats like mud from a cesspit. He finds even the slightest contact disgusting and wishes the other person dead.”
“Then what is he doing now?” Yin Yao could not figure it out.
