Chapter 1341: The Mermaid Princess (40)
“Brother Yao, Pei Jiang is your classmate after all. Is it really okay for you to scare him like that?”
Yin Yao unwrapped an ice cream and handed it to Tang Guo. “It’s fine. If he gets scared often enough, he’ll get used to it.”
“A’Guoguo, what were you talking about just now? I heard Qiao Chen’s name.”
Yin Yao had always felt that his little fish seemed to harbor a great deal of hostility toward Qiao Chen. Yet no matter how much he investigated, he could never find out what sort of contact there had been between her and Qiao Chen.
“We were talking about Qiao Chen and Fuya.”
Yin Yao paused before saying softly, “Pei Jiang likes Fuya.”
“Oh? Brother Yao, you actually noticed?” Tang Guo was a little surprised. She had thought that since he spent all his time around her, he paid no attention to such things.
“Does A’Guoguo think I’m an idiot?” Yin Yao’s voice was light and indifferent.
Tang Guo smiled brightly. “No. In my heart, Brother Yao is the smartest person.”
System: Praise him. Praise him with all your might. Praise him like your life depends on it.
Although he had heard such compliments from her for a long time, Yin Yao never grew tired of hearing them.
“A’Guoguo, you’re hostile toward Qiao Chen, and you don’t seem to like Fuya either.”
He had been thinking about these things for a while. It was just that back then, they had not been so close.
Tang Guo did not hide it. Leaning closer, she whispered, “Qiao Chen and I have a grudge.”
Yin Yao was astonished. A grudge?
“What kind of grudge?”
Tang Guo pursed her lips and took a bite of her ice cream before swallowing. Yin Yao patiently waited beside her, completely unhurried.
“Life and death.”
After a long while, that unexpected answer finally came from her lips.
A life-and-death grudge?
He was puzzled. Why would it be a life-and-death grudge?
Qiao Chen was nothing more than an ordinary human, with a lifespan of less than a hundred years.
He was certain that before Tang Guo came to this school, the two of them had never known each other.
At the very least, he had never heard of the Third Princess of the merfolk having any feud with a mortal.
Even if some mortal had truly offended or framed her, the King of the Merfolk would never have spared that person.
“Brother Yao, just wait and see. Qiao Chen and I are far from finished.” Tang Guo smiled sweetly. “Do you find it strange? He clearly doesn’t like Fuya, yet he insists on accepting her, even letting her think about sharing her life with him, causing her to betray the merfolk.”
“It is rather strange.”
Anyone with even a little discernment could tell that Qiao Chen did not like Fuya.
He could see it. Tang Guo could see it. Even Pei Jiang could sense it.
Yet somehow, only Fuya herself, caught in the middle of it all, seemed utterly unaware.
“Then stay closer to me from now on,” Yin Yao said after thinking for a moment. “As long as I’m here, he won’t be able to harm you.”
“Really?”
Tang Guo had already finished her ice cream. She casually wiped her fingers, still smeared with a bit of melted ice cream, on Yin Yao’s sleeve before linking her arm through his.
Yin Yao glanced at the tiny chocolate stain now marring his white shirt and simply ignored it.
His gaze settled on her smiling face. “Really.”
He withdrew his arm, wrapped it around her slender waist instead, and pulled her into his embrace, bringing the two of them even closer. Lowering his head to her ear, he murmured, “But I think this is even closer.”
“Brother Yao really is smart. You know that holding me like this brings us even closer.”
System: Pfft—
You can praise him for that too?
Good grief, these two really are unbearable.
