Chapter 1300: The Fool’s Daughter (79)

Tang Zhiming's wife said that his parents were already so old. Surgery was dangerous at their age, and they might as well enjoy their remaining years peacefully.

Tang Zhiming thought it made sense.

So the couple brought them home.

But there was no peaceful retirement waiting for them.

They still cooked, cleaned, and did all the housework.

Only when they truly became bedridden and the doctor declared that they had less than half a month to live did Tang Mengmeng's mother appear at their bedside.

“Liu Chunyue, so you finally ended up like this.”

“You… Third Sister-in-law, why are you here?”

“Heh, because you're dying, of course. And I came to tell you a truth.”

Without wasting any words, she leaned close to Liu Chunyue and whispered, “Do you know that precious golden grandson of yours isn't Zhiming's son at all? That woman was already pregnant when she married into your family. She couldn't find another man willing to take responsibility and didn't want to abort the child, so she simply let your son become the one taking over the burden.”

Having delivered the blow, Tang Mengmeng's mother left with great satisfaction.

She only wanted to know whether that green hat fit Tang Zhiming comfortably.

Liu Chunyue was literally angered to death.

Not long afterward, Tang Liping passed away as well.

This time, Tang Guo, Tang Lide, and Song Jinghua all attended the funeral.

Not long after, Tang Guo heard that Tang Zhiming had divorced.

The woman had sweet-talked him into signing over the property, then kicked him out without mercy.

The amputee eventually became a crippled beggar.

Everyone in the Tang family knew about it.

Not a single person extended a helping hand.

Song Jinghua and Tang Lide had heard the news as well.

“Xiaoguo once told me,” Song Jinghua said, “that back then, Zhiming didn't get beaten because he was protecting her. He had offended the school bully next door, and the bully only targeted Xiaoguo because she was his cousin. Later, after seeing Zhiming, he beat him instead.”

“I know.”

Tang Lide closed his eyes.

“This place is good enough. Let's not go out.”

“Mm.”

Song Jinghua smiled faintly.

“Before she passed away, my mother often called me crying. She said Third Brother had tricked her out of her savings to buy a house for his son. Now he treated her like a servant, and she complained that she'd never enjoyed a single day of happiness.”

“What did you say?”

Song Jinghua chuckled.

“I said, 'Mom, Third Brother is your most beloved son. If you don't rely on him, who else can you rely on? Haven't you always treasured him the most? Doing some housework for him isn't so bad, is it? Besides, you're already in your seventies and eighties and still healthy enough.'”

“My mother said daughters are better after all.”

Unable to hold back, Song Jinghua laughed.

“So I told her, 'No matter how good daughters are, haven't they all married out? They're someone else's family now. Spilled water can never be gathered again.'”

“Jinghua,” Tang Lide said softly, “our daughter is wonderful.”

“I know.”

“We failed her.”

“So let's just live peacefully here and stop causing trouble for her.”

“Mm. That's why I haven't interfered in my mother's affairs all these years. And you haven't meddled with the Tang family either.”

The two held hands and sat in the courtyard of the retirement home, gazing at the distant mountain where tourists climbed along the paths.

“This place is wonderful,” Song Jinghua murmured with tears in her eyes. “It's just… missing something.”

Tang Guo saw all of this through System's display.

Host, these people really managed to push themselves into dead ends all on their own. That's quite impressive.

“That's because my two suckers were simply a little too foolish. The others aren't easy to bully. Once they start fighting among themselves, both sides end up losing.”

Everyone said the men of the Yuan family were good men.

They cherished their wives like treasures.

Among Tang Guo's peers, many couples secretly hoped that she and Yuan Shuo would have a son someday.

Then perhaps their daughters could marry him.

But more than ten years passed.

Tang Guo was already in her thirties.

And still, she had no children.
