Chapter 1296: The Fool’s Daughter (75)

“That brat must have done something good in his previous life to meet such a wonderful girl like Xiaoguo.”

“Everyone, let me make one thing clear. Our Xiaoguo is like my own daughter, even more important than that boy Yuan Shuo. None of you are allowed to bully her.”

“Madam Yuan, look at what you're saying. Would any of us dare? Everyone knows your Xiaoguo is an exceptional young lady. Who would dare offend her? Besides, I'd be more afraid of your son getting angry. He treasures Xiaoguo like his life.”

Song Jinghua and Tang Lide left the wedding quietly and dejectedly.

Only then did they realize just how well the Yuan family treated their daughter—so well that they themselves could never compare.

When they had arrived, they had even worried that Xiaoguo might be bullied after marrying into such a family.

Yet Madam Yuan's gentle personality wasn't like that at all. She treated Xiaoguo far better than her own biological parents ever had.

Earlier, while standing among the guests, they had overheard people discussing Tang Guo.

“It's only natural that Madam Yuan likes Miss Tang so much. She's such a wonderful girl.”

“Exactly. Yuan Shuo is truly lucky to have met someone like her. Why couldn't my son have met her first? He's still single.”

“Come on, does your son compare to Yuan Shuo? I heard Yuan Shuo personally drives Miss Tang to work every day.”

“To be honest, I don't understand why someone as capable as Miss Tang doesn't start her own company.”

“She doesn't lack money. Why bother? Doing risk assessment work for other companies is already profitable enough. If only a girl like her belonged to our family. She's so capable.”

“Jinghua, let's go back.”

“Mm.”

Tang Lide gave a bitter laugh. “Big Brother called me the other day. He said life has become difficult.”

“What did you say?”

“I hung up.”

Song Jinghua chuckled softly. “You've become quite something.”

“My mother called me too.”

“What did she say?”

“She cursed me for a while and then told me to come home. She said she'd reserved a room for me.”

“And you agreed?”

“How could I?” Song Jinghua shook her head. “This retirement home is wonderful. I've spent half my life confused. I can't afford to remain confused during the years I have left.”

“Later, Third Brother and Elder Sister called me too. I hung up on them as well.”

Tang Lide let out a long sigh of relief.

“In the past, whenever relatives called, I'd always be afraid of missing something or hearing them wrong. I'd worry that if I failed to help them, I'd feel uneasy. But now…”

“I realize I don't have to care that much.”

“Yes,” Song Jinghua agreed.

Tang Guo watched their backs as they boarded the retirement home's car.

That's right.

They had come in a special vehicle sent by the retirement home.

After all, it was the finest retirement home in the entire province.

“Should we go see them off?” Yuan Shuo asked.

“No.”

Tang Guo lowered the curtain.

“See them off for what? The retirement home has a car.”

Yuan Shuo wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his chin against her neck.

“Xiaoguo, your heart is as hard as stone.”

“But I love you for it.”

“Xiaoguo, you won't treat me like that in the future, will you?”

Tang Guo laughed softly.

“Brother Shuo, as long as you're obedient, I won't.”

“I've always been obedient.”

Yuan Shuo smiled and pressed a kiss to her red lips.

“Whenever I hear you call me Brother Shuo, I always get the urge to do something.”

“What kind of urge?”

Scooping her up into his arms, Yuan Shuo laughed softly.

“To do things only the two of us can do. And now I finally can. I want to hear what it sounds like when you call me Brother Shuo at those moments.”

“Brother Shuo.”

“Mm?”

“You really are adorable.”

“Then Xiaoguo, can you call me Brother Shuo a few more times? I really want to hear it.”

“So obedient?”

“Then I'll indulge you.”
