Chapter 1295: The Fool’s Daughter (74)
Listening to the elderly couple's words, Song Jinghua and Tang Lide felt deeply uncomfortable.
Had they really cherished their daughter?
After settling into the retirement home, they got to know many people.
Most of the residents shared one thing in common—their families were harmonious, and their children were filial.
They asked others how they had treated their children and compared those stories to their own actions. The more they compared, the more ashamed they became.
They even turned their experiences into a story and discussed it with their neighbors.
The result was always the same.
They were criticized and scolded.
Everyone said that for children to still take care of parents like that was already a blessing earned by burning incense in several lifetimes.
Had the children been more ruthless, they would have abandoned such parents completely.
People also said that anyone foolish enough to behave that way must have had something wrong with their brains. How could people that stupid give birth to children so capable and intelligent? Those awful relatives should have been cut off completely.
Anyone who destroyed their own family in order to help outsiders was either foolish or mentally unsound.
While the couple suffered in the finest retirement home, Tang Guo spent her days working and collecting debts.
The first to repay was Tang Mengmeng's father, Tang Lixing. A mere hundred thousand yuan was nothing to him.
The next was Song Jinghua's elder sister, Song Zhenqiu. Going to court again over a little more than a hundred thousand yuan would have been too embarrassing.
After that, various relatives returned the smaller sums they owed.
In the end, only two families remained.
One was Old Madam Song.
The other was Liu Chunyue's family.
Together, those two households owed more than two or three million yuan.
Even after dragging things out for an entire month, they still had no intention of paying.
Perhaps they thought Tang Guo was merely bluffing.
Unexpectedly, just two days after the deadline passed, they received another court summons.
Only then did they hurriedly call Tang Guo, begging for another month and promising to repay immediately.
With great reluctance, Old Madam Song finally handed over a huge sum.
Tang Liping couldn't come up with over two million yuan. In the end, he sold his old house to settle the debt and moved with Liu Chunyue into Tang Zhiming's apartment.
As for that loan shark company, Tang Guo completely crushed it. She even sent the people in charge to prison and managed to recover most of the money.
After collecting all the debts, Tang Guo came to the retirement home and told Song Jinghua and Tang Lide about everything.
Neither had expected it to be resolved so quickly.
Less than two months.
After listening to the entire story, they sighed and shook their heads.
“Xiaoguo, keep the money,” Tang Lide said. “It should've been yours in the first place. We've wronged you too much over the years. Just treat it as your dowry.”
“Yes,” Song Jinghua agreed. “Living here doesn't cost us much anyway.”
“Alright, then I'll keep it for now. If you ever need it, you can ask me for it. And if you live long enough, I'll use it to renew your stay here.”
The two forced bitter smiles.
Was she refusing their goodwill?
Then again, they still had no idea when their daughter had become so capable. To her, that amount of money probably wasn't worth much.
Tang Guo left.
Unless there was something important, she rarely visited.
Two years later, Tang Guo married Yuan Shuo.
Song Jinghua and Tang Lide attended the wedding.
Only then did they discover that this spirited young man wasn't an ordinary insurance salesman at all.
Not only did he own his own company, but he also came from an exceptionally prominent family.
They worried that Tang Guo might be mistreated after marrying into such a household.
Yet when they saw Mother Yuan smiling warmly as she held Tang Guo's hand, the two women looking as close as mother and daughter, their worries gradually faded.
Mother Yuan spoke to every guest while holding Tang Guo's hand, proudly saying over and over,
“Our Xiaoguo is so capable and wonderful. That stinky boy of mine really struck gold by marrying such an excellent girl. He's the one who got lucky.”
