Chapter 1240: The Fool's Daughter (19)

She would occasionally offer a few words of advice, telling them that the matter wasn't their family's fault and that dropping by once in a while with some tonic supplements was more than enough.

Instead, the couple scolded her for being cold-hearted. Her cousin had lost a leg, and yet she was standing off to the side making sarcastic remarks.

They even said that if they didn't know she was their daughter, they might have suspected that Tang Zhiming's accident had really been her doing.

Tang Guo wanted to tell them that with the way they acted, combined with Liu Chunyue's temperament, anyone in the hospital ward who didn't know the truth probably already thought she was the culprit.

Hadn't she noticed the strange looks everyone gave her every time she visited?

Every day, Tang Guo waited at the same bus stop. Every time she had barely arrived, Yuan Shuo's call would come.

“Miss Tang, what a coincidence. Waiting for the bus again?”

“Yes, President Yuan. Don't tell me you're nearby again?”

“Indeed. Miss Tang is truly clever. Come over, it's on the way.”

“Thank you, then I won't stand on ceremony. Who knows when the bus will arrive?”

System rolled his eyes. Are these two serious? Every single day, one deliberately waits and the other deliberately 'happens to pass by.' You're adults already. Why not just be straightforward? All this flirting and roundabout nonsense is so boring.

Suddenly, Yuan Shuo recalled the day he'd driven Tang Guo to the hospital.

Counting the days, a week had already passed.

“How are things with your family?” he asked.

Back then, he'd witnessed firsthand just how shameless her relatives were. They'd opened their mouths and pinned the car accident on her. Any ordinary girl would've been frightened senseless.

But she had been smart enough to get the car inspected before selling it.

And when she was slandered, she had simply called the police.

From those two incidents alone, it was obvious she wasn't some weak woman who could be bullied.

Then again, a woman who, after being pitched insurance, claimed she was broke and wanted to become friends with him first so she could borrow money from him to buy insurance was never going to be simple.

“My cousin's still in the hospital. He's fine, though my parents have already fed him until he's gained a whole circle.”

Hadn't they?

Every day it was bone broth, chicken soup, and all sorts of nourishing stews.

Whenever they had time, they rushed to the hospital—more diligently than Liu Chunyue, his own mother.

The couple practically handled everything his parents should have been doing.

Whenever Tang Guo visited, she would see Tang Lide and Song Jinghua busily running around while Liu Chunyue and Tang Liping sat off to the side chatting.

Meanwhile, Tang Zhiming lay comfortably in bed eating away, his face already noticeably rounder than before.

Yuan Shuo was astonished after hearing this.

“Are your cousin's parents very busy? Helping out once or twice is understandable, but why are your parents taking care of him every day?”

“Probably because they still feel guilty since the car was sold to Cousin by me,” Tang Guo answered indifferently.

“But it wasn't your fault. The car had already passed inspection and there wasn't anything wrong with it. Besides, he was entirely responsible for the accident. First, he was drunk. Second, he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.”

Tang Guo smiled.

“It's rare to find President Yuan standing on my side.”

“What? No one else is?” Yuan Shuo paused before asking.

Tang Guo shook her head.

“Even if I'm not responsible, the car was still sold to my cousin by me. Since he lost his leg, I'm destined to carry the blame.”
